Chapter 187
“Mr. York, I’m outside your office. Are you on your lunch break yet? I’m here to take you to my shop for lunch. Surprise!” Zachary was at a loss for words. While it was indeed a surprise, it wasn’t a pleasant one.
Fortunately, he was skilled at maintaining his composure, as he had just experienced quite a shock.
“Mr. York?” Serenity called out when she received no response from him.
Tugging at his tie, Zachary replied in a low voice, “I’m on my break, but the client hasn’t left yet. We’re still finalizing the business details, so it might take a while. Why don’t you go ahead, and I’ll meet you at your shop for lunch?”
“How much longer do you need? I didn’t drive; I took a cab,” Serenity responded. “It’s okay. I’ll wait for you outside your office building. We can go back together when you finish your work.”
Zachary raised his arm to check his watch before answering, “There’s a dessert shop right across from the office. Wait for me there. I’ll see you in a bit.” Serenity turned her head and spotted the dessert shop. Without hesitation, she decided to take Zachary’s suggestion.
Once Serenity hung up, Zachary let out a sigh of relief. He had been worried she might barge in, which would have revealed his plans.
Since Serenity had come for him, Zachary hurried to the VIP reception and quickly closed the deal with the client. He then arranged for Josh and a few senior executives to take the client for a meal at the Wiltspoon Hotel.
“Aren’t you coming along, Mr. York?” the client inquired.
“Something came up, so I can’t join you for lunch, Mr. Johnson. We’ll have to reschedule,” Zachary replied. The client he was dealing with today was…
None other than Remy Johnson, a member of Annenburg FC & Co.’s wealthiest family, was involved in a situation with local tycoon York Corporation. FC & Co.’s Wiltspoon branch had subsidiaries in Wiltspoon but was sensible enough not to undercut the local tycoon, resulting in no previous interactions. However, this time, FC & Co.’s Wiltspoon branch embarked on a significant project and was seeking a potential partnership with either York Corporation or Stone Group. Both companies expressed interest in collaborating with Remy. After discussions with the head of the Johnson household, Remy began to favor a partnership with York Corporation, marking the beginning of a business relationship between the two giants.
Remy tactfully concluded the conversation, and Josh encouraged him to move along. Remy’s bodyguards were waiting outside, as he often traveled with his security detail whenever he was out in public. It was said that, out of his ten siblings, Remy was the least capable of defending himself. Consequently, he was always surrounded by bodyguards when in public settings.
Zachary personally accompanied Remy and the entourage to the elevator. Once they were inside, Zachary returned to his office and retrieved a pair of binoculars to observe from the window. As Remy and the others drove away from York Corporation, Zachary turned around and pulled out his phone to instruct his bodyguards to wait for him on the first floor of the office building. A few minutes later, Zachary made his way down to the first floor.
“Sir,” one of the bodyguards addressed him.
“Go ahead and have your lunch. There’s no need to follow me. Just give me the keys to the MPV,” Zachary replied as he walked.
A bodyguard handed over the MPV keys to Zachary. Though the bodyguards initially followed him, he waved them off, signaling them to stop. Since Mr. Zachary was using the N, they were instructed not to tag along.
