found it unnecessary to engage either.
“Even if he did see something,” Zachary mused, “it’s been so long! I doubt it’s still there.”
Zachary had always been this way. Duncan felt certain that nothing could change Zachary’s mood so quickly. He was inherently calm and maintained the same expression even amidst chaos.
“I didn’t overthink it,” Josh insisted. “He must have seen something that made him really bitter.” Curiosity about what Zachary witnessed in the bathroom gnawed at him.
He leaned in closer and whispered, “Duncan, do you think he might have walked in on a couple having sex in the bathroom and found it disgusting? That’s why he was in such a bad mood?” Duncan was rendered speechless.
Meanwhile, Shawn was nowhere to be found. Despite the absence of his love rival, Zachary still appeared gloomy and rigid. After hearing his friend’s question, he quietly remarked, “She doesn’t know you two.”
Duncan and Josh fell silent, realizing the truth in Zachary’s statement. Serenity had no idea who they were and would not recognize them, so there was no need to avoid her.
As Zachary remained seated, Josh teased, “Aren’t you going to say hello to her?”
Zachary replied nonchalantly, “She has her own circle of friends, and I’m not close with any of them, so there’s no need to say hello.” Josh shrugged in response.
After all, Serenity wasn’t his wife. If Zachary wasn’t interested in greeting her, Josh and Duncan felt no obligation either.
The seats chosen by Serenity and Jasmine were situated quite a distance from where Zachary was seated. Serenity faced away from him, so she didn’t realize he was there. However, he could clearly see all her movements. Despite still feeling angry, Zachary remained indifferent to his wife’s presence in the cafe. He neither greeted her nor cast another glance in her direction, treating her as if she were a complete stranger.
