chapter 218
Liberty continued her job search.
Serenity took her nephew back to the store.
Jasmine adored Sonny and often played with him, allowing Serenity to concentrate on her crafts.
She planned to create some retro headwear to sell online and monitor the sales. If successful, she would consider opening another online store.
Since the rise of e-commerce, brick-and-mortar stores have seen a significant decline in business.
If her online store proved profitable, Serenity would gladly launch another one.
Jasmine wanted to check before she started cooking to ensure there would be enough food for everyone.
“Even if I call him, he probably won’t come anyway. Jasmine, I think I’m in a cold war with Zachary.”
Serenity had just finished making a miniature tree that a customer ordered and decided to take a break for now.
Jasmine asked with concern, “How did that happen? Haven’t you two been getting along well lately? Mr. York even sent someone from Wiltspoon Hotel to bring you a meal because he wanted you to eat well.” Serenity sighed and replied, “It started when I invited you and Shawn for lunch last Saturday. I didn’t see him, but he might have seen me. He accused me of treating Shawn as a backup partner and said I was cheating on him. I was really upset. Shawn and I are like siblings; I’ve always viewed him as my younger brother. How could I consider him a backup partner? If I had feelings for him, I would have turned to him when I was looking for a man to marry to escape my sister’s house. Why would I choose Zachary instead? “He usually appears generous, but he’s quite narrow-minded. Not only is he petty, but he’s also suspicious and…
He says hurtful things and accused me of cheating before verifying the facts. Isn’t he implying that I’m promiscuous?” She didn’t mention that Zachary had also forcefully kissed her when he was drunk.
After a pause, Jasmine asked, “Did he see the three of us eating together? Why didn’t he come over to say hello? I was right there too. Didn’t he notice me? Did he only see Shawn and you?”
“I said the same thing. I told him you were with us, and that I was just having a meal with my friends.” Jasmine pondered this and her expression shifted. Tentatively, she asked, “Seren, does Mr. York suspect that I’m the matchmaker?”
Serenity was at a loss for words. ‘Given Zachary’s suspicious nature, it’s quite possible he thinks Jasmine was trying to set up Shawn and me or even covering for me.’
Jasmine felt distressed. She never considered matchmaking her friend with Shawn, mainly because Serenity was three years older and preferred not to date younger men. Additionally, Shawn clearly viewed Serenity as an older sister, and their relationship was strictly familial.
“Seren, you need to explain to Mr. York that I’m not trying to matchmake you. I’m innocent.” More importantly, this misunderstanding could impact her friend’s marriage with Mr. York.
Although their marriage was based on convenience and lacked emotional depth, they had been licensed for a month, so they should have developed some feelings by now. Jasmine hoped her good friend and Zachary could experience a loving relationship like a typical husband and wife and be together for life. She never considered introducing her friend to other men.
“I tried, but he only believes what he sees. He didn’t come home last night, and I sent him a message this morning, but he hasn’t replied either. I think this is what people mean by a cold war.”
Serenity let out a sigh. This was her first experience as a wife. Lacking any prior knowledge, she felt lost on how to handle a couple’s cold war.
