chapter 220
As time passed, Zachary stopped trying to guess her expenses. Since he had given her the money, she was free to use it as she wished.
Although he was upset with her and had removed her from his WhatsApp, he did not intend to reclaim the funds he had provided.
He decided to tolerate her until their agreement expired, unwilling to breach the contract early, as that would require him to pay a substantial amount in liquidated damages. Ten minutes later, he received another notification about her spending.
This time, the total exceeded twenty thousand dollars. For Mr. York, this amount was insignificant; he simply wanted to understand why she was suddenly spending so much. Was she purchasing gold? Or had she gone shopping out of spite after noticing he had deleted her? As expected, Zachary’s instincts were correct. There were still ten minutes left in the workday, but the meeting had concluded, so Zachary decided to adjourn it early.
The others exchanged glances, hesitant to be the first to stand up and leave.
After a moment, Zachary finally sensed something was amiss. He looked up and quietly asked, “Aren’t you all ready to leave?”
The others thought, ‘We are, but we’re too intimidated to move.’ Ultimately, it was Callum, Zachary’s second-in-command in the York family, who broke the silence and exited the room.

“Why?” Before Zachary could respond, Josh continued, “I sensed something was off with you. Your mood changed after lunch on Saturday. Are you finally admitting that you fought with her? Tell me why, and I’ll help you analyze it.”
“What’s there to analyze? I saw her having lunch with another man. I watched her smile and feed him. Even as her husband in name only, she doesn’t treat me that well.” Josh inquired, “Is she having an affair?” “It’s an emotional affair.”
Josh opened his mouth to speak but hesitated, unsure how to comfort his boss and best friend. Regardless of the circumstances, anyone would be furious upon learning their partner was cheating. It was a natural reaction. Zachary was a proud man, accustomed to being in control and commanding respect. Above all, he was used to everyone bowing to him. Serenity’s betrayal, even if it was solely emotional, struck a significant blow to Zachary. The crucial point was that his ego couldn’t withstand it!
