chapter 234
A sudden thought crossed her mind. ‘Could the rumors be true? Does Zachary have a preference for men, or is there some sort of physiological issue?
It had been over a month since his marriage to Serenity, and they lived together, yet he had never claimed his rights as a husband.’
Determined to help, Old Mrs. York decided to ask the cook to prepare a nourishing soup for Zachary, which Serenity could deliver to him. Perhaps it would improve his health and foster a closer bond between the couple. They couldn’t continue this cold war and live separately forever.
“Sonny, greet Great-grandma.”
Old Mrs. York beamed and complimented Sonny on his manners.
She then accompanied Serenity into the store.
“Grandma May, you’re here.”
As Jasmine emerged and noticed the elderly lady carrying three insulated lunch boxes, she hurried over to take them from her.
“I brought you breakfast. Come on, let’s eat together. I love sharing meals with you two; the food tastes so much better.”
Upon entering the store, Old Mrs. York treated it like her own home, casually heading to wash her hands and gather cutlery.
Jasmine opened the lunch boxes and was delighted by the breakfast inside.
She asked Old Mrs. York, who was coming out of the small kitchen, “Grandma May, did you buy this from a five-star restaurant?” The food was exquisite and smelled heavenly. Jasmine would not believe it if Old Mrs. York claimed it wasn’t from a five-star restaurant. Her family also hired a cook, but the cook’s skills were nowhere near as impressive.
Old Mrs. York couldn’t admit that the meal was prepared by the chef at Zachary’s house. So, since Jasmine inquired, she played along and fibbed, “I took the lunch boxes to Wiltspoon Hotel and asked them to pack the food so it stays warm.”
Serenity washed her nephew’s hands and remarked, “Nana, you shouldn’t have. Jasmine and I aren’t picky eaters. Even if you bought plain oatmeal, we would still enjoy it.”
“Nana, your pension should be used for your retirement,” Jasmine added.
Old Mrs. York chuckled. “I have many children and grandchildren who will support me in my old age. I’m not short on money. My only concern is figuring out how to spend it all. They all give me an allowance every month. Don’t worry; I just bought three servings of breakfast, and they didn’t cost much.”
Indeed, Old Mrs. York had considerable personal assets, and her primary worry was how to spend her money. Serenity chose not to say anything further.
The three adults and one child gathered around the checkout counter to enjoy the delicious breakfast brought by Old Mrs. York.
“Serenity, Serenity!” Elisa’s voice echoed before she arrived. Old Mrs. York, who had been happily eating, froze at the sound of Elisa’s voice. ‘Elisa knows my true identity. I can’t let her see me!’
