Chapter 241
Mike ended the phone call, disregarding his aunt’s reprimands.
He sighed deeply.
He genuinely felt unlucky because, despite seeking help from numerous people, Serenity remained unharmed.
Mike suspected that Serenity had a powerful ally, though he couldn’t identify who it might be.
None of the mediators were willing to assist Mike, which suggested that Serenity’s supporter was likely someone influential in Wiltspoon. During his investigation, Mike also didn’t find any evidence that Serenity or Liberty were connected to notable figures.
Although Liberty’s husband was a manager at a large company, he was still just an employee. Mike was unsure about Serenity’s husband’s profession but learned from locals that he drove a national car worth approximately one hundred twenty thousand dollars.
Any of the Hunts’ scooters surpassed the vehicle owned by Serenity’s husband.
This indicated that Serenity’s husband was not doing particularly well.
If Mike had to guess Serenity’s backer, he would think it was her best friend, Ms. Sox, who was born and raised in Wiltspoon. The Sox family was wealthy, and Mike had heard that her aunt married into an affluent family. Was that Sox girl helping Serenity?
Serenity believed her money-hungry relatives would definitely seek her out after she called the police to have Noah arrested, so she was mentally prepared.
However, as noon arrived, she had yet to see any of her bothersome relatives.
Grandma May called Zachary to invite him for lunch.
By the time Zachary received the call from his nana, he had already left the office in his private car, en route to the Wiltspoon Hotel for lunch.
Josh followed behind Zachary in his car, as they had agreed to have lunch together.
“Nana,”
Zachary responded to his nana’s call. Before she…
In a low voice, he asked, “Did you get the answer to the question you were supposed to ask on my behalf?”
“What question? Was I supposed to ask someone something?”
Grandma May couldn’t remember.
Zachary’s car screeched to a halt. His expression remained unchanged as he continued speaking to his nana. After a brief pause, he added, “I wanted you to ask Serenity what time she got home last night, but you didn’t give me an answer all morning.”
Jim turned his head to see his boss speaking to the elderly lady. Seizing the moment, he informed Zachary, “Mr. York, it’s Ms. Stone again.”
Elisa Stone had waited at the entrance of York Corporation all morning, hoping to invite Zachary to lunch and present him with a gift.
This time, Elisa had learned her lesson and didn’t use her car to block his, ensuring it wouldn’t get damaged again. Instead, she stood in front of Zachary’s exclusive vehicle, preventing other cars from entering or leaving the lot.
Zachary didn’t even glance at Elisa outside the car.
Grandma May chuckled and said over the phone, “I completely forgot about that question! But don’t worry, you can ask her yourself later. Are you off work? Come over for lunch now. I’m still at Serenity’s store. She’s busy preparing a seafood feast in the kitchen.”
Zachary reflected on his conflict with Serenity during this time. He had deleted her on WhatsApp, and she had blocked his number.
To be honest, Zachary had never had his number blocked since he first got a mobile phone. Serenity was the first person to do so.
“I’m not going. Josh and I are heading to our hotel for lunch,” Zachary replied, declining Grandma May’s invitation. He felt that having lunch at Serenity’s store would mean conceding to her.
Although Zachary believed he was at fault and that they had reached an impasse, he found it hard to admit it.
As Grandma May would say, Zachary was as stubborn as a mule.
“No! I already told Serenity that you’re coming over for lunch and asked her to prepare your share. If you don’t come, the extra food will go to waste. Hurry over to this seafood feast; the dishes are fresh from the sea! That girl Elisa brought them back for Serenity.”
Upon hearing this, Zachary frowned and coldly asked, “Why did she give Serenity so much seafood?”
“Hehe, because of you! I’ll let you in on a secret… Serenity is helping Elisa pursue you. Haha! Zack, don’t you think that’s wild? This is the first time I’ve seen something like this!”
Grandma May stepped outside the bookstore to speak with Zachary so that Serenity and Liberty wouldn’t overhear their conversation.
