Chapter 242
Liberty returned to the bookstore after another unproductive day of job hunting.
Zachary was left speechless by his grandmother’s words.
She sounded almost triumphant.
“I won’t waste time with you. Just come over for lunch now. If you don’t, I’ll tell Serenity that you’re the heir to York Corporation! Don’t test me. I’ve found a way for you to break this deadlock, but you’re refusing to budge. By the way, here’s another secret: the gift Elisa wants to give you is actually from Serenity. You’ll only discover what it is once you accept it.”
Zachary’s expression darkened further.
His grandmother had assured him that she wouldn’t meddle in his relationship with Serenity, yet here she was threatening to expose his true identity to her.
Zachary ended the call, but Grandma May didn’t mind; she was just about to hang up anyway.
“Mr. York, Ms. Stone is unwilling to back down,” the driver remarked, glancing back at Zachary.
Zachary remained silent for a moment before abruptly opening the car door to exit.
Elisa was thrilled to see Zachary stepping out and quickly approached him, holding the gift box that contained two phoenixes. Her large, expressive eyes gazed fondly at Zachary’s handsome face. Despite his grim and aloof demeanor, it did nothing to diminish his allure.
He was undeniably striking and composed!
Elisa was captivated by Zachary’s looks.
“Mr. York, this is for you. Thank you for your help this morning. I dislike being in debt to anyone, so since you assisted me, I owe you one. May I invite you to lunch to repay your kindness?”
Elisa offered the box to Zachary with both hands, looking at him with hopeful anticipation.
She found Serenity’s idea quite effective.
Since Elisa began utilizing Serenity’s suggestions,
In his pursuit of men, Zachary was willing to leave his car to meet her. He focused intently on the box in front of him. Grandma May mentioned that Elisa had purchased this gift from Serenity, leading him to believe it must be one of Serenity’s crafts. Serenity had given Elisa the lucky cat she had promised him previously. When he discovered this and felt angered, Serenity vowed to give him a golden dragon along with the lucky cat, but he had yet to receive either gift. Had Serenity given them to Elisa again? With this uncertainty lingering in his mind, Zachary reluctantly accepted the gift box that Elisa offered. He opened it in front of her, revealing two phoenixes inside.
“Mr. York, do you like them? I think these two phoenixes are magnificent and lifelike,” she exclaimed. Zachary’s decision to open the gift box surprised Elisa, who smiled at him with admiration in her eyes. He thought, ‘At least Serenity didn’t give Elisa my gifts.’ He quickly returned the two phoenixes to the box and tossed it back to Elisa before turning to head back to his car. Zachary disregarded Elisa’s lunch invitation to repay his favor.
“Jim, take her aside!” Zachary commanded Jim in a firm voice as he approached his vehicle. Jim obliged and swiftly pulled Elisa aside. Furious, Elisa retaliated by stomping on Jim’s feet, causing him to wince in pain.
