chapter 243
The employees of York Corporation understood that Stone Group was their competitor, so why should they make an effort to appease Elisa Stone? Zachary York found it impossible to accept Elisa’s advances. As a result, no one at York Corporation felt apprehensive about offending her.
Zachary’s luxury car came to a stop at a red light, prompting him to call Josh. Josh, noticing the car in front of him, answered the phone with a chuckle. “I can hear you just fine if you roll down your window, turn around, and shout,” he joked.
“Josh, I need to cancel our lunch. You can eat at the hotel alone,” Zachary informed him.
“Why?” Josh inquired.
“I’m going to be with my grandma. She just called me,” Zachary replied, opting not to mention that he was heading to Serenity’s bookstore for lunch to maintain his dignity.
With a grin, Josh responded, “I can join Grandma May for lunch too. I doubt she would mind my company!”
Grandma May was known for her easygoing nature and was friendly with younger people, often treating Zachary’s friends and employees like her own grandchildren.
“Not today,” Zachary replied.
“Oh—” Josh elongated his response, seemingly catching on to the reason. He smiled and said, “Alright then. I’ll head to the hotel by myself.”
After explaining to his friend, Zachary instructed the driver, “Take me back to Brynfield.”
During their impasse, Zachary and Serenity had been living apart. The national MPV he had purchased specifically to mislead Serenity remained parked at Brynfield, and he did not request anyone to drive it to the office as was his usual practice. Thus, Zachary decided to drive the MPV himself.
The driver followed his instructions, and ten minutes later, they arrived at Brynfield. Zachary took the wheel of the national MPV and drove directly to Wiltspoon School.
Upon arriving at Serenity’s bookstore, the students who had just finished school were picked up by their parents. The bookstores and convenience stores in front of Wiltspoon School returned to their tranquility after the earlier hustle and bustle.
