chapter 266
Perhaps a bit too kind. If they had been in her position, they would have adopted a few dogs. If that group of trash dared to confront them, they would have simply unleashed the dogs on them. Engaging in even a casual conversation with that bunch felt like a waste of energy.
Serenity said bitterly, “They are still my dad’s siblings, after all. I was just so angry that I had to chase them away.”
“That’s how it should be. Yes, they are your father’s siblings, but they are also heartless! Normal people wouldn’t be capable of the abhorrent things they did! Serenity, you shouldn’t feel guilty. You did the right thing, and we support you!”
Serenity expressed her gratitude to everyone for understanding her and for not believing she had overreacted.
Once the crowd dispersed, Serenity returned to her shop, broom in hand.
Zachary regarded her solemnly with his dark eyes. Every time she encountered trouble, she never allowed him the opportunity to assist her.
She moved too quickly. The moment she grabbed the broom, she sprang into action and managed to chase them away in the blink of an eye. She even wore a pained expression to ensure the onlookers were completely on her side, helping her condemn those trashy relatives.
He was a hero without a battlefield.
Serenity placed the broom back in its original spot.
“They ran off too fast; otherwise, I would have beaten them to a pulp!” she said as she approached Zachary.
Stopping in front of him, she looked him in the eye and said gratefully, “Mr. York, thank you for helping me shock my aunts and the others to the point that they only dared to use their words. You made them afraid to lay a hand on me.”
Zachary played the leading role in the first act, serving as the shock factor, while she took charge in the second.
She acted and drove those people away. Serenity believed it was her rightful duty to clear the trash. Zachary remained silent for a moment before saying, “Serenity, you should allow me the opportunity to contribute in the future. Otherwise, people might think you married a useless man, and that reflects poorly on you as well.” Serenity was left speechless.
