Chapter 274
“Sonny.”
With no time to retrieve the can of formula that had rolled into the middle of the road, Liberty rushed to her son, checking him for any injuries.
“Where does it hurt, Sonny? Do you feel any pain? Tell Mama.”
“Mama.”
Sonny cried loudly, clinging to Liberty’s neck and refusing to let go.
He wasn’t hurt, but the scare had shaken him.
“Bang!”
A loud noise erupted.
Liberty turned to see the source of the sound. A car had knocked the can of formula aside, and as luck would have it, it smashed onto the car’s windshield as it fell. The weight of the can combined with the force of the drop shattered the windshield into pieces.
The driver slammed on the brakes.
Startled by the sudden turn of events, Sonny stopped crying and clung even tighter to his mother’s neck.
Liberty caught sight of the car’s logo. It was a Porsche!
A high-performance sedan!
Uh… was she expected to cover the repair costs?
The last time Liberty scratched a Maybach, Mr. Lewis only asked her to contribute a portion of the damages out of respect for her brother-in-law, who knew the car’s owner.
This time, Liberty couldn’t afford to pay for the repairs.
She watched in dismay as the driver stepped out of the car. The tall, muscular figure looked oddly familiar.
Was it Mr. Lewis?
What were the odds?
Duncan inspected his windshield and realized it would need to be replaced.
He quickly grasped the situation when he noticed the tumbling can of formula, Liberty’s overturned stroller on the pavement, and several packs of diapers scattered around.
Cans of formula were scattered on the ground. Once Duncan realized it was Liberty, he couldn’t believe his bad luck. It was always this heavyset woman! He turned around and got back into the car.
Thinking he was about to drive away, Liberty let out a sigh of relief. To her horror, he parked the car at the side of the road instead. After exiting the vehicle, Duncan picked up the can of formula and righted the stroller. He collected the diapers and other cans of formula as well, but since the stroller couldn’t hold everything, he leaned the packs of diapers against it.
“Ms. Hunt, do you have a grudge against my car? You scratched it last time, and now my windshield is cracked because of you.” Duncan’s presence was intimidating due to his tall, muscular build and the scar on his face. Liberty felt guilt-ridden and scared.
Clutching her son, she stuttered, “Mr… Mr. Lewis… Um… it was an accident… I didn’t mean it…” Duncan glared at her, which only made her more anxious. “Mr. Lewis, you can’t blame me for this. You were speeding! Didn’t you see there was something on the road?”
Duncan found her response amusing. “Are you suggesting that I was blind?” Liberty was left speechless. Many cars passed by, but only Duncan hit the can of formula. This could only be attributed to his high speed. Since he had accelerated, even if he had seen the can, it was likely too late for him to brake or swerve. Liberty tried to defend herself.
