Married At First Sight Chapter 4039
Chapter 4039
“Sister, are you here for something?” Abby asked anxiously, glancing toward the stairs. She was eager to stop Evan from eating more chili peppers but still turned her attention to Adalee.
Adalee raised an eyebrow. “Of course, I’m here for work. However, it will take some time. So, what’s your decision—work with me first, or go downstairs to save Evan from the chili peppers?”
Abby hesitated for a moment before making her choice. “I’ll stop Evan first.”
Adalee had already anticipated Abby’s decision. She sighed inwardly. Abby was completely under Evan’s spell, but it wasn’t entirely one-sided. Evan was equally tied to Abby, willingly caught in her charm.
Yet, Evan wasn’t in love with Abby’s true self; he was enamored with the version she chose to present to him. Still, that version was undeniably Abby, wasn’t it?
Fortunately, Evan’s heart was drawn to Abby’s persona. Had he chosen another woman, Adalee would not have accepted Abby returning to him. The daughters of the Du family were not meant to back down for anyone.
“Sister, give me ten minutes,” Abby said before rushing off.
“Alright,” Adalee replied. “I’ll wait in your office. Alternatively, you can come to mine later.”
“I’ll come to yours,” Abby called out as she made her way toward the stairs.
Adalee watched her sister disappear and then turned to Abby’s secretary, a contemplative expression on her face. “Your vice president is still hung up on Evan York.”
The secretary nodded. “Mr. York is the first man she’s ever truly fallen for. He treated her like a queen. Honestly, I don’t think any woman could resist that kind of attention.”
“True,” Adalee replied with a faint smile. “Handsome, wealthy, capable, and thoughtful—he checks all the boxes.”
it’s going to end badly for you.” She paused, her tone softening. “After everything they’ve endured—the separation and the heartache—they’re finally back together. I believe they will appreciate each other even more now.” The secretary added with confidence, “Our vice president is sharp. She won’t allow herself to be hurt again.”
Adalee’s demeanor shifted, her gaze hardening. “If Evan dares to hurt Abby again, I’ll ensure he regrets it.” Her tone left no room for debate. She wasn’t just Abby’s sister; she was her fiercest protector. No one dared to cross the Du family without facing consequences.
Meanwhile, Abby remained unaware of their discussion. She was already in the elevator, hurrying downstairs. As soon as the doors opened, she dashed through the lobby. Her staff barely caught a glimpse of her, a blur as she sped past.
“… Did anyone else just see that?” one of them asked. Another responded, “Vice President Du is fast—she definitely lives up to her martial arts training.”
As Abby approached the main doors, she suddenly slowed her pace, casually strolling outside. The staff exchanged knowing glances. “She doesn’t have to pretend. We all know she’s as quick as lightning.” They all understood the reality: the vice president still cared deeply for Mr. York.
Outside, Evan was in rough shape. His lips were swollen, his face was flushed, and tears brimmed in his eyes from the spicy food. Yet, he stubbornly reached for another handful of chili peppers.
Before he could pop them into his mouth, a slender hand intervened. “That’s enough.” Abby’s voice was icy as she pried his fingers open, allowing the peppers to tumble to the ground. “Evan,” she said firmly, “you’ve had more than enough. If you keep going,
“You’ll make yourself seriously ill.” Evan gazed at her, tears streaming down his cheeks. Seeing his swollen lips and pitiful expression, Abby’s heart softened, and she felt a pang of guilt.
“Abby…” Evan sniffled.
She sighed and pulled out a tissue, handing it to him. “Here. Wipe your tears and snot. People are going to think you’re really crying.”
Then she turned to the bystanders. “Someone get him a glass of warm water.”
A moment later, someone handed over a large glass, and Abby observed as Evan took a sip, still sniffling.
