Abby sighed softly and said, “If that’s truly the reason, it might be best for them to sever all ties. The Chouinard family already looks down on Victoria. Even if Brother Spencer insists on being with her, she will constantly face disapproval from her in-laws after marrying into his family.
“A woman who is not accepted by her in-laws will struggle. Unless she lives separately and her husband supports her unconditionally, she will always feel like an outsider. Otherwise, it sets the stage for conflict. Small arguments will arise every few days, leading to larger fights soon after. Even the strongest relationships can crumble under that kind of pressure.”
Evan frowned slightly and asked, “If that’s how you feel, why are you still advocating for them to stay together? Are you concerned that the elders will try to pair you with Spencer instead?”
Abby shot him a wry smile. “That’s just wishful thinking on your part, isn’t it? Don’t flatter yourself. I loved you once, yes, but you made it clear I wasn’t your choice. We’ve completely moved on from that. At best, we’re just friends now, and the only reason I’m nice to you is out of respect for your grandmother.”
“Abby, I’m sorry,” Evan replied quietly. He didn’t attempt to elaborate, offering only a simple apology.
His response left Abby momentarily speechless.
“I just want Brother Spencer and Victoria to make their decision without regrets,” she finally said. “If they can choose to face the challenges together, they will find a way. The two families have known each other for decades, and both mothers have been best friends for just as long. If Spencer and Victoria stand united, the elders will eventually respect their choice.

“Victoria wouldn’t have to endure hardship in the Chouinard family. I would ensure that she is supported through her family’s challenges. I won’t allow her to feel inferior in Spencer’s home. She means so much to me, like a sister, and Spencer is my brother—they are both incredibly important in my life.”

Evan nodded thoughtfully. “That makes sense. Missing out on love can leave someone with lifelong regrets.”

Abby leaned back in her seat, her voice softening. “I’m going to take a nap for a bit. Wake us both when we get home.”

Evan smiled. “Alright, go ahead and rest.”

Abby tilted her head, her gaze lingering on him for a moment. “How are you this good-looking? Even your side profile is so perfect; it’s ridiculous.”

Evan chuckled, his tone playful. “It’s so I can be worthy of you.”

Abby rolled her eyes and shook her head. “I don’t even know why I bother talking to you.”

With that, she closed her eyes, ending the conversation.

The gates to the Farrell family mansion stood wide open.

Since Clarissa’s death, the gates had rarely been left open like this. It was unusual to see them ajar during the day.

Typically, the gates opened only when Kathryn returned; she would drive in, and they would shut immediately behind her.

Yet, despite being back in her family home, Kathryn had never truly felt like she belonged there.

She hadn’t grown up with her biological parents, and in fact, she had only lived in the Farrell family mansion for two or three years. The place still didn’t feel like home.
