After being hugged by his grandmother, he turned to his grandfather for another hug, completely ignoring his parents and uncles. This was because his parents were often busy with work and had little time to care for or spend with him. Children naturally grow closer to those who take care of them. For instance, take Sonny. Since Duncan frequently played with Sonny and spent time with him, Sonny became more attached to Duncan than to his own father. Do you really think we’ll run out of money for formula? Besides, I don’t mind. Once the baby arrives, I’ll stay home to help. I’ll be your nanny, looking after you and the baby. During your recovery, you won’t need to lift a finger—just
rest and ensure you get plenty of sleep. “I have so many younger brothers who can take on the workload. It’s their turn to step up. I’ve been shouldering the responsibility for long enough, and I need a break.” As he spoke, Zachary placed his large hand on Serenity’s rounded belly. His expression softened as he continued, “Wife, I already feel a connection to our child, even before their arrival. Being the eldest in the family carries significant responsibilities. In our family, the firstborn always assumes the burden of leadership, and it can be a tiring journey.
“I’ve experienced this myself, so I understand how challenging it is. I don’t want our child to bear that same weight, but it is their duty, their mission. There’s no way around it.” Internally, Zachary reassured himself. If their firstborn were a son, at least he would be suited for the role. Such a demanding job shouldn’t fall on a daughter. If they did have a daughter, Zachary resolved to pass the responsibility to their second child. After all, daughters are meant to be cherished, not encumbered.
Serenity smiled. “It’s far too early to worry about that. For all we know, our child might not even have the capability to take over the family business. Don’t forget—you still have eight younger brothers, and they’ll all marry and have children someday, too.”
“If each of them has two kids, that adds up to 18 members in the next generation. Who knows which one will prove to be the most capable? The family will select the best candidate. You were chosen because you’re the eldest and the most capable. If you hadn’t been fit for the task, I doubt the family elders would have allowed you to take charge.”

While Serenity’s company may not be the largest and its scale doesn’t match that of the York Corporation, Zachary’s personal enterprise is substantial and impressive. Although it doesn’t quite reach the same magnitude as the York family business, it still surpasses most major corporations.
