Married At First Sight Chapter 4156
Chapter 4156
Time had slipped away before she even realized it.
It felt like just yesterday that she had taken over the family business, yet in the blink of an eye, years had passed.
When she first stepped in, no one believed she could manage the Ormond empire. Many underestimated her, waiting for her to fail, while others saw it as an opportunity to claim the Ormond family’s assets for themselves.
Her parents had lacked the strength to maintain control after her grandparents passed away. Under their oversight, the family business declined, losing money.
To make matters worse, their so-called “relatives” from the extended family continually schemed against them, setting traps and exploiting her parents’ naivety. Time and again, they were deceived.
As the eldest daughter and granddaughter, Elora had no choice but to take charge.
In her teens, she built something of her own, establishing a reputation through sheer determination and grit. Over time, she secured a foothold, stabilized the family’s empire, and thwarted every conspiracy her relatives attempted against her.
Now, those same relatives avoided her like the plague.
When they couldn’t evade her, they either scrambled to win her favor or faded into the background, hoping to remain unnoticed.
However, many of them were still her parents’ siblings—her aunts and uncles. She couldn’t completely sever ties with them, even if she desired to.
Her parents insisted on maintaining those connections.
Take her mother, for instance. Despite everything, she still visited her family. Even though her own brother was among those eager to profit from their downfall, she never fully turned her back on him.
Elora found it difficult to sever that connection as well.
Instead, she chose to keep her distance, never visiting her uncle’s house during…
did she allow herself to breathe deeply. The holidays approached, and he understood the significance. He never dared to question why. Mrs. Ormond still held her position within the family, and that was sufficient; it maintained harmony. Ultimately, the Ormonds had become the most formidable force in Annenburg’s business landscape. Everyone scrutinized Elora’s every action. If her mother severed ties completely, her brothers’ enterprises would falter. They would become vulnerable targets—easily crushed, bankrupted, and eliminated by opportunists lurking like vultures.
“Miss, have some fruit.”
Tatum’s gentle voice interrupted Elora’s thoughts. She blinked, suddenly realizing she had been standing at the window for thirty minutes. With a soft exhale, she turned and returned to her desk. Tatum had already arranged a plate of fresh fruit for her, accompanied by a disposable fork. After dinner, she rarely consumed much fruit, just a little of everything.
“Tatum, I need to take care of a few documents before my meeting with clients. Go home and eat. Starting tomorrow, when you cook, make extra. We’ll eat together, so you don’t have to go hungry.”
“You always emphasize that three proper meals a day are essential for a healthy stomach. You’ve taken such good care of mine—I can’t let yours suffer.”
Tatum’s lips formed a subtle smile.
“Okay. I couldn’t ask for more.” His voice was warm. “Thank you for your concern. It means a lot.”
His eyes softened as he looked at her. For a fleeting moment, something passed between them. Elora met his gaze, sensing the emotion in his eyes. Her heart skipped a beat. But just as quickly, she composed herself.
“You should go,” she said, her tone steady.
Tatum nodded and gathered his belongings. Moments later, he was gone. Elora watched him until the office door clicked shut behind him. Only then did she allow herself to exhale.
Did she look away? Yet, her thoughts remained fixated on the way he had gazed at her. Lost in contemplation, she gazed into the stillness of the space he had vacated.
