Chapter 4158
Although Liberty continued to show Kathryn respect during their transition period, she often found herself consulting Kathryn on various matters. This plan aimed to protect her three brothers, at the very least ensuring they could retain their homes, shops, and other properties. She didn’t want them to lose everything.
“Mr. Lewis is here. You should go.”
As they entered the hotel, Duncan approached slowly, with his two bodyguards pushing a wheelchair behind him at a measured pace. Guests passing by cast curious glances in Duncan’s direction. The lobby manager stepped forward to assist him, but Duncan politely declined.
Liberty took a deep breath and turned to Kathryn. “Call me if anything happens. I wish you good luck.”
“Thank you!” Kathryn replied with a smile. “We’ll both need it.”
Liberty then walked towards Duncan, while Kathryn turned to leave.
“Duncan.”
Liberty stepped forward to support him. “Come on, let’s go home.”
Duncan accepted her assistance, and they exited together at a slow but steady pace.
Duncan quietly remarked, “Miss Farrell is gone.”
Liberty nodded. “She didn’t say anything to me, but I’m sure it’s happening tonight. Her three brothers left work on time and didn’t stay late. They completed all their tasks.”
Duncan spoke in a low voice. “They have a few helpers—two of them are brothers of the Farrell family’s fake daughter.”
Liberty remained silent.
Once they were in the car, she sighed. “Kathryn is a good person, but she has very few people she can call family. Her adoptive parents treated her poorly, and even after reuniting with her biological parents, her father and three brothers never fully accepted her. If it weren’t for the
The Farrell family has a century-old tradition of passing leadership to daughters rather than sons. Even Kathryn’s biological mother, Clarissa, would not have supported her. Clarissa only began to appreciate Kathryn later, when she felt there was no other option for ensuring her daughter’s survival. Initially, she had wanted to send Kathryn away in an attempt to protect her, but this was due to Clarissa’s entrapment within the family’s rigid traditions. Kathryn was her only legitimate heir—the sole individual capable of inheriting the Farrell family name.
Shiloh, despite being raised and groomed for over twenty years, was not a blood relative, which disqualified her from leadership. Holden’s three sons were also unsuitable for leadership and did not meet the family’s strict inheritance criteria. This left Kathryn as the only viable option. Without such traditions, Kathryn would have been inconsequential to the Farrells, even after reuniting with her biological family. Their loyalty would have remained with Shiloh, who had spent over twenty years with them and had been their daughter in every meaningful way—except by blood.
In contrast, Kathryn was a sudden and unexpected addition to their lives, and they had never formed a genuine bond with her. Even now, Holden and his sons still longed for Shiloh and might even be plotting against Kathryn in pursuit of vengeance. Shiloh’s downfall was not directly caused by Kathryn. However, Kathryn’s return had cost Shiloh everything she once valued. Consumed by resentment, Shiloh had continuously provoked Kathryn, refusing to relent until she ultimately destroyed herself. It is true that Kathryn played a role in that downfall.
Liberty and her allies supported Kathryn, believing she held the moral high ground. However, Marco and others saw things differently, viewing Kathryn as ruthless and cruel. Ultimately, people’s loyalties shape their perception of right and wrong.
Right and wrong are subjective. There is no absolute fairness in this world—only varying perspectives. Duncan remarked, “She endured tremendous struggles before discovering happiness. Now, she is set for a good life. Mr. Fraser loves her and always will. He is loyal to her—he will never abandon her. Regarding family? She released that connection long ago.”
