However, Kathryn remained unconvinced. She knew her brothers too well.

If they weren’t incarcerated, they would do everything possible to thwart Liberty’s takeover of the Farrell family. Ultimately, they would lose everything.

And if she opposed them, she would triumph—but at a significant cost.

“She won’t listen. She won’t even let me help,” Kathryn lamented.

Liberty sat beside Kathryn’s bed, her heart heavy as she gently touched Kathryn’s swollen face.

“Mr. Fraser, continue applying ice. It will help reduce the swelling more quickly,” she advised.

Pedro nodded. “I’ve been icing it regularly. But once the miss makes a decision, even the matriarch cannot change her mind.”

Clarissa believed that keeping Kathryn far from Jensburg was essential; as long as Pedro protected her, the family’s bloodline would stay intact. She had hoped that Kathryn could eventually reclaim control of the Farrell family. Yet, the current head of the family had already made her choice.

Since discovering that the Farrell leadership had been seized unfairly, the eldest daughter had lost any desire to rule.

She simply wanted to end the conflict, walk away, and live a quiet life—free from power struggles and greed. Liberty sighed. “Kathryn may appear tough, but she is fiercely loyal. This time, she and her brothers are truly finished. She won’t spend another moment thinking about them. She understands that they despise her, but when family completely turns against you, it’s heartbreaking.”

“There’s no forgiveness, no pretending it never happened,” Liberty added. “Where are they?”

“Now?” Pedro’s voice was quiet. “The eldest was shot in the right hand—he’ll survive. The second and third brothers were arrested on the spot. The second young lady’s brothers were involved as well; they were working alongside the eldest. They even brought backup, but everyone was captured. No one got away.” Liberty nodded. Kathryn’s trap had worked. Every single person who intended to harm her and Liberty had been taken down in one move.

She remained at the hospital throughout the night, anxiously waiting for Kathryn’s fever to break. When Kathryn finally awoke, she smiled, but the swelling made it painful, causing her to wince as she grinned. “You’re still smiling?” Liberty scolded, pretending to be annoyed. “Serves you right for getting hurt.” She raised her hand as if to swat Kathryn but let it drop lightly without making contact.

“What am I supposed to say about you?” Kathryn chuckled. “The plan worked, didn’t it? No one escaped. I got a little hurt, sure, but I caught them all. That’s a win.”

Liberty fell silent before confessing, “I was so worried I barely slept. When I did, I had nightmares about you. I woke up in a panic and called Mr. Fraser. He told me you’d been saved but taken to the emergency room. I was terrified. I rushed here as fast as I could. Thank God your life wasn’t in danger.”

Kathryn reassured her, “I told you—I’d only get hurt, not die. I’m not about to risk my life over them, and I won’t do something like this again. But there won’t be a next time. Last night, I cut all ties with them. From now on, they are them, and I am me.”
