Chapter 4216
After chain-smoking for a while, Mr. Labbe returned to his room.
Carrie was still asleep. He looked at her with cold indifference—offering no sympathy whatsoever.
Standing by the bed, he gazed down at her. Despite all his efforts to mold her, she remained useless.
If “Mrs. Labbe” hadn’t already been introduced to Serenity and others, making her identity public, he would have discarded this worthless woman long ago.
Turning away, he exited the room.
Carrie didn’t dare open her eyes until she heard the door click shut.
She had woken up during his phone call with Timothy but remained still, fearing he might suspect her of eavesdropping.
Moments earlier, when he stood by her bedside, she felt the unmistakable chill of murderous intent in his gaze.
He was going to kill her—eventually.
Panic washed over her. She wanted to run, but where could she go? Who would help her?
For a brief moment, she thought about running to Camryn and confessing everything, but she quickly dismissed the idea.
Her current misery was Camryn’s doing. They were sworn enemies—one of them had to die.
Even if she faced death, she would ensure that Camryn went down with her.

“Seren, would you like some water? Fruit? Snacks? What are you reading?”
Abandoning his work, he walked around the desk to sit beside her.
Serenity smiled at his fussing. “I’m reading one of those parenting books you bought. I
“You already have water—remember, you poured me a glass as soon as we arrived. You also brought me fruit and snacks,” she said with a chuckle. “How many times are you going to ask the same thing?”
“I told you I could go to the checkup by myself, but you insisted on coming. Now you’re too distracted to work. My presence is throwing you off,” he replied. When Serenity was around, Zachary struggled to focus on anything else.
“You’re not bothering me at all,” he countered, reaching for her cup. “But this water is cold. Let me get you a fresh one.” He picked up the cup and walked away, adding over his shoulder, “Honestly, I’m not busy at all.”
