Chapter 4238
Elisa remarked, “I know you treat Remy well because of me. You hope my future in-laws will treat me just as kindly. Mom, even if I move to Annenburg with Remy, don’t worry—I won’t be bullied. He’ll protect me, and I can stand up for myself. Have you forgotten who I am? I’m a little firecracker! No one bullies me—I’m the one who does the bullying.”
Audrey playfully pinched her daughter’s cheek. “I’m not worried about that at all. Your future in-laws are wonderful people. Their family is honest and harmonious. You’re lucky to have found a man like Remy.”
Elisa smiled. “That’s because I have great taste. Any man I choose—and the family he comes from—is bound to be exceptional.”
Audrey laughed, pinching her daughter’s cheek again. “Yes, yes. You have the best taste.”
She was truly pleased with Elisa’s choice in Remy.
Elisa then got up to play with her little nephew.
The baby smiled at her, melting Elisa’s heart. She immediately reached out to hold him.
Grandpa Jimenez loved babies but rarely held them. He worried that his old hands, which sometimes trembled, might drop the baby.
Watching Elisa dote on the child, Grandpa Jimenez smiled. “Elisa, you and Remy should have your wedding soon and start a family. By then, Leland will probably be married too. Just think of three or four little ones running around—it’ll be lively. I just hope I can live long enough to see that.”
He wished to witness this new generation getting married and having children before he passed.
“Uncle Jimenez, don’t say things like that. You need to enjoy life. You’ve been through so much, and all the hardships are behind us. Now, we just need to live well and be happy. We’re all here for you, and we want you to live to 120!”
Elisa added, “Grandpa
Jimenez, I don’t appreciate hearing you speak like that. Remy and I are getting married this fall—that’s just six months away. It will be here before you know it.” Audrey sighed. “It’s not just Grandpa Jimenez who’s concerned—I am, too. But my biggest worry is about Leland. We keep setting up blind dates for him, but he avoids them. When we suggest he find someone himself, he simply says he hasn’t met the right person yet. He’s getting older… Is he planning to remain single forever?” Leland isn’t a kid anymore.
“Not too long ago, Alice wanted to introduce him to a friend, but he declined. He claimed that if he didn’t like her, it would create awkwardness between Alice and her friend. Elisa, please keep an eye out. If you meet a nice girl, introduce her to Leland. My standards aren’t high. As long as she comes from a good family, has open-minded parents, and is kind and generous, I’ll be happy.” She didn’t care about the girl’s wealth; all she wanted was someone with a good heart.
