Chapter 4245
Chapter 4245
Abby looked at Spencer and smiled. “Brother Spencer, I didn’t expect you to defend Evan. He and I are not really rivals in love.”
Spencer smiled back, saying, “I’ve always regarded you as a sister, and you don’t love me. It’s merely my parents’ wishful thinking that we should get married.”
“I’ve just been playing along to help you provoke Evan,” she replied.
“I admit that Evan is a great match for you. Your families are well-suited for one another.”
The wealth and status of the Chouinard family were nowhere near those of the Du family, let alone Victoria’s family.
In fact, Spencer’s parents had shifted their stance because Victoria’s family was on the brink of decline. They no longer supported his relationship with Victoria, recognizing that nothing substantial had come from it.
People often said that Spencer and Victoria were like siblings, sharing deep feelings for one another.
But as for being lovers? Neither had ever claimed to be in love.
Abby then asked, “Brother Spencer, Evan and I don’t have any serious issues. I’ll talk to him once I get through this busy period. But what about you and Victoria? Are you really just giving up? Aren’t you worried she’ll marry someone else to save her family’s company?”
The Chouinard family had the capacity to assist Victoria’s family; it all depended on their willingness to do so.
Victoria had also spoken to Adalee, and the Du family was prepared to lend a hand if necessary.
Adalee’s mother was concerned about Victoria’s family as well, given that she and Victoria’s mother had been best friends for decades.
On the surface, Adalee’s mother supported a match between Victoria and Spencer. However, privately, she was displeased with Mrs. Chouinard’s attitude—how she disapproved of Victoria and refused to assist her family.
She viewed it as kicking someone when they were down.
Their families had
They had been friends for years, having worked together and watched their children grow up as true childhood sweethearts.
However, when Victoria’s family encountered difficulties, the Chouinards suddenly distanced themselves. They even prohibited Spencer from lending her family money to help them through the crisis.
In truth, the Du family had already embraced Evan.
When comparing families, the Chouinards simply could not measure up to the Yorks. Spencer and Evan were, at best, equals, and surpassing Evan was out of the question.
Spencer sighed, “I just took on my responsibilities here and have been overwhelmed. I can’t just leave. A phone call or text won’t suffice for Victoria and me; we need to talk in person. When I find some free time, I’ll return, have an honest conversation with her, and make my position clear to my parents. In this lifetime, I’m only marrying Victoria.”
It was only after they parted ways that Spencer realized he could not afford to lose her. If he did, he would regret it forever and never find happiness again.
They had spent nearly thirty years together, their bond rich with love, friendship, and family.
She was already a part of him.
Abby felt relieved. “I’m glad you’ve come to understand your feelings.”
When she got home, she would call Victoria and share the good news.
