She then turned to Mrs. Johnson, who was beside her. “Old sister, I’ll take Elora for a stroll.”
Mrs. Johnson nodded in agreement. “Please help me entertain Miss Ormond.”
Elora stood and stepped forward to assist Mrs. York.

“Elora, you don’t need to help me,” Mrs. York said. “I may be old, but I can still walk perfectly well.”
Elora hadn’t anticipated that the elderly woman traveled frequently, yet she continued to offer her support.
Mrs. York was pleased. The granddaughter-in-law she favored possessed outstanding character—regardless of status, this was the most important quality.
If her character were lacking, she wouldn’t have received such favor.
The group exited the main house.
Elora turned to the bodyguards. “You don’t need to follow us. Just wait for me here.”
The four bodyguards respectfully complied, halting in place and watching as Elora and Mrs. York walked away together.
Elora glanced around and nodded. “It truly is beautiful.”
However, it didn’t leave her in awe—perhaps because the Ormond family’s mansion was equally impressive.
“I heard from Tatum that his mother and several aunts live here with you?” she inquired.
Mrs. York chuckled. “Yes, they get bored at home, so they say they want to keep an old lady like me company and relax. They are out shopping now, but they’ll return this evening. Why don’t you stay for dinner? I’ll shamelessly extend the invitation on behalf of Mrs. Johnson.”
Elora politely declined. “No, I’ve already disturbed you by coming here. How could I stay for dinner? I…”
She came today seeking answers. There’s been something weighing heavily on her heart for a long time, like a thorn embedded within. If she doesn’t address it, it will continue to affect her mood.
Old Lady York offered her a compassionate gaze. “Feel free to ask whatever is on your mind. If I have the answer, I’ll share it. But if it’s something I cannot disclose, I hope you will understand.”
She referred to herself as “grandma” in front of her future granddaughter-in-law, thereby bridging the emotional gap between them.
Elora didn’t linger on the title and got straight to the point. “Old Lady York, do you know the real reason Tatum visited my home?”
A knowing smile crossed Old Lady York’s face. “Yes, I do. Tatum mentioned that he wanted to apply for a position as a chef in your household. That boy has a passion for cooking and saw it as a wonderful challenge to be your personal chef.”
Elora paused for a moment before probing further. “But the two places are thousands of kilometers apart. Why would Tatum care so much about me hiring a private chef?”
Old Lady York chuckled softly. “I can’t say for sure. Perhaps your job posting created a buzz in the culinary community, or maybe his friends informed him. He has many chef friends who often share cooking techniques and gather to exchange experiences.”
Elora remained skeptical but chose not to argue. Instead, she continued walking with Old Lady York as they entered a garden.
The garden was brimming with a variety of flowers, all in full bloom. Vibrant colors stretched in every direction, creating a picturesque scene.
At the center of the garden stood a charming pavilion.
