Chapter 44
Jasmine couldn’t help but laugh at Grandma May’s humorous remarks. Though she had never met Zachary face to face, her best friend had filled her in on his distant demeanor. It was amusing to think he was part of Grandma May’s family.
Before long, Callum showed up.
He was there to take his adventurous grandmother back home. Nana reminded him to opt for a more economical vehicle.
The most affordable car available was a BMW, which the housekeeper used for grocery runs. However, it was valued at over a million dollars. With no time to purchase a new one, Callum had to settle for borrowing the gardener’s pickup truck.
“Serenity, I’m here to take Nana home,” he announced as he entered the shop.
Callum greeted Serenity, who responded, “Drive safe. Nana, please send me a message when you get home.” She then handed them the crafts she had created that day, including a copper-wire miniature tree for Callum.
He was more than happy to accept the gift, having developed an appreciation for Serenity’s craftsmanship after seeing her creations around the house. While he believed her handiwork might not carry significant monetary value, they were certainly delightful to look at. Grandma May and Callum didn’t linger for long.
As they drove off, Grandma May inquired, “Where did you get this truck?”
“It’s Tom’s truck for transporting fertilizers and pots. I borrowed it from him. We don’t want Serenity getting suspicious, do we?” Callum replied.
Since Zachary chose to keep his wealth hidden from Serenity, the entire family had to play along with the charade.
Regardless, it was all in good fun.
Callum eagerly anticipated the day Zachary would fall deeply in love with Serenity. He couldn’t wait to see how Serenity would react once she discovered Zachary’s deception.
Secretly, Callum was thrilled at the thought of watching Zachary attempt to navigate this tricky situation!
“No wonder I recognized the truck. It belongs to Tom,” Grandma May exclaimed, pulling out her phone.
Zachary received a call that immediately drew his attention. As soon as he answered, the elderly lady on the other end wasted no time. “Zack, I’m really craving the desserts from Beans and Cream. Could you please pick some up for me? I just adore their desserts!”
Zachary frowned at her request and replied, “You could ask anyone else in the house to do this. Why should it be me?”
“Really? Can’t I ask you? If I don’t see those Beans and Cream desserts on the table later, I might just have to apply for a cleaning job at the office tomorrow!”
Zachary was taken aback by her ultimatum.
Nana had been a bit unruly since Gramps passed away. She often dressed inappropriately when going out, and now she was even trying to push him into finding a wife. “Alright, I’ll go!” he finally relented, hissing through gritted teeth.
Feeling satisfied with his response, Grandma May ended the call.
Callum chimed in, “Nana, we could grab the desserts on our way back home if you’d like. Zachary doesn’t have to be the one to do it.”
