Chapter 47
Chapter 47
Serenity was completely unaware of the encounter between Zachary and Grandma May. Running into Zachary at Beans and Cream took her by surprise, but as she pieced things together, she began to understand why he had been there.
What motivated Nana to act in such a way?
Was it to create a misunderstanding in Zachary’s mind about her intentions?
It wasn’t as though Serenity was on a blind date; it was Jasmine’s date. Even if Zachary spotted her…
Reflecting on the moment at the coffee house, Serenity became more aware of the tension etched on Zachary’s face. Although she often struggled to pick up on social cues, it was clear to her that Zachary had misconstrued the situation. Most notably, Jasmine had stepped away to the restroom, leaving Serenity alone with Mr. Bill.
Fortunately, Jasmine returned from the restroom just in time. Her timely intervention eased the tension that had been tightening around Zachary’s jaw.
Serenity was perplexed as to why Nana would engage in such behavior. Despite saving Nana’s life, she never expected anything in return. It was Nana who consistently expressed her gratitude and tried to shower Serenity with love and kindness. Logically, Nana wouldn’t do anything to harm her.
With more questions than answers swirling in her mind, Serenity made her way home and settled onto the balcony swing. Choosing not to turn on the lights, she quietly gazed at the night sky.
Zachary finally arrived home at midnight.
By the time he walked through the door, Serenity had already drifted off to sleep on the swing. Unaware of her presence, Zachary assumed she was in her room, as her door was closed and the house was shrouded in darkness.
Plopping down on the sofa, Zachary flicked on the TV. Although he rarely watched, he felt the need for some background noise. He turned the volume down to the lowest setting.
He didn’t want to disturb Serenity’s slumber.
Suddenly, his phone began to ring, and Zachary glanced at the caller ID. It was Callum.
“Callum,” he answered.
“Are you okay, Zack?”
Callum’s worried voice came through the line.
After a brief pause, Zachary replied, “So, you were aware Nana set me up?”
“What? How did Nana set you up? All I knew was that she wanted you to grab desserts from Beans and Cream. Her love for their cakes is no secret.”

Zachary let out a scoff. “My wife just happened to be on a date at Beans and Cream.”
“What!”
Callum exclaimed in shock, “Your wife went on a date? Is she cheating on you? You just got married less than a week ago! Our families met yesterday, and we even discussed your wedding during dinner. Now you’re telling me your wife was on a date?”
“She was there to support her best friend on a date,” Zachary clarified. “… Zack, you should’ve told me that right away before I jumped to conclusions about Serenity. I knew she didn’t seem like the type to fool around.”
“It was just a coincidence; her best friend was in the restroom when I got there. So, I found Serenity sitting with her best friend’s date.”
“Talk about timing. Even if Nana invited you there, she couldn’t have predicted that you’d arrive just when Serenity was alone with another guy.”
Zachary fell silent for a moment, then replied irritably, “Nana bought Beans and Cream not too long ago. She’s the actual owner.”
As the head of the household, Zachary had a good understanding of Nana’s undertakings.
“Wait, are you saying the staff were keeping tabs on Serenity? You just happened to show up when her best friend was in the loo, making it look like Serenity was with another man?”
Callum quickly pieced it all together, chuckling as he did. “I guess Nana is just eager for your relationship to succeed since you two just got married.”
“Serenity is married, but it seems like she’s trying to get under your skin to provoke some jealousy. Were you feeling jealous, Zack?”
“I don’t even know what jealousy is!” Zack replied.
Callum couldn’t help but laugh. “Well, maybe Serenity could help you learn that new word. Nana really adores Serenity. Honestly, Zack, I think you’ll end up falling for her eventually. While she may not be able to change her past, Serenity is remarkable in so many ways. Just look at her stunning copper-wire crafts—they’re truly amazing.”
He had received a miniature tree from Serenity. While it might not hold much value, Callum cherished it. He decided to bring the miniature tree to his office the next day, as he had the perfect spot for it on his desk.
