Chapter 51
Clive was anxious about his sister’s plan to confess her feelings for Zachary. He couldn’t shake the feeling that his impulsive sister might end up heartbroken after approaching someone like Zachary, known for his indifferent demeanor. Why did she have to fall for that serious face?
“She’s bothering me! She’s right outside my office. Either you come and take her away, or I’ll have my men throw her out,” he snapped into the phone.
“I’ll have my wife pick her up right away so we don’t cause you any trouble, Mr. York. Please continue with your work,” came Zachary’s cool response before he ended the call.
Clive was fuming, not at Zachary but at his sister. Without wasting a moment, he called his wife, urgency lacing his voice. “Honey, where are you?”
“I’m out shopping with Mom. What’s the matter? You sound upset,” she replied.
“Please go to York Corporation and get Elisa. She’s gone to confront Zachary and is likely bothering him. You know how he is—he won’t tolerate this,” Clive urged.
His frustration stemmed from his sister’s stubborn love for Zachary, despite the family’s warnings. He was also concerned about how Zachary might react. Although Zachary was typically cold, he could have a fiery temper that could lead to embarrassing consequences for anyone who annoyed him, regardless of their background.
Zachary was a prominent figure in Wiltspoon’s business scene, and his actions were always under media scrutiny. Clive knew that if Zachary decided to retaliate, it wouldn’t take much for the media to turn against Elisa.
His main worry was the damage it could do to his sister’s reputation. If she faced Zachary’s wrath, she might never be able to show her face in Wiltspoon again. His wife reassured him, “I’ll go there right away. Don’t be angry. Elisa just wants to take a chance. If it doesn’t work out, she’ll move on. She doesn’t want to regret not trying.”
