With a reassuring smile, Shawn said, “I don’t know. I’ll get your bike fixed. I promise to return it to you in perfect working condition.” As Jasmine’s cousin and a long-time friend, Serenity felt confident in trusting him.
“Thank you,” she replied gratefully. Eager to help Serenity, Shawn quickly dialed a number to arrange for assistance. Serenity listened as he communicated their location, and now all that was left to do was wait for the tow truck. Just then, the driver spotted a familiar woman waiting at the traffic lights across the street.
It looked like the missus, judging by her figure. While they waited, he turned to Mr. Zachary, who had his eyes closed, resting. “Sir, that woman over there resembles the missus,” he said. Zachary opened his eyes and turned his gaze toward the couple by the roadside. The man was unrecognizable from a distance, but the woman seemed unmistakably like his wife. Having lived together for some time, Zachary had grown accustomed to Serenity’s silhouette. “Slow down as we pass by. I need to confirm if it’s really her.” “Understood,” the driver replied.
As Zachary pulled out his phone to call Serenity, he paused, reconsidering. Before long, the traffic light turned green. With the luxurious convoy slowing down, Zachary was finally able to see that the woman was indeed his wife, Serenity. Just as the convoy moved away, it hit Zachary who the man was—Shawn! His love rival! Were Serenity and Shawn together, or had they simply crossed paths? Despite the questions swirling in his mind, Zachary decided against calling Serenity. The convoy of luxury sedans soon disappeared from view, while Shawn watched them leave before turning back to Serenity.
“Did you catch a glimpse of those cars? One of them belongs to Mr. York,” Shawn remarked, realization dawning on him after the fact.
The convoy had departed. Serenity, with a casual tone, asked, “Which Mr. York are you referring to?” “The heir of the wealthiest York family,” came the reply. “He’s also the CEO of York Corporation. He attended the dinner party, but you ladies were too engrossed in the food to notice him.” Shawn glanced at Zachary and said, “I’m not part of your elite circle. I was merely a plus one for Jas at the dinner party, eager to sample the cuisine from a seven-star establishment. I highly doubt I’ll ever encounter Mr. York or any of Wiltspoon’s wealthy elite again.”
“Why should I even care to catch a glimpse of him?” Serenity remarked, noting how the crowd had surrounded Mr. York that evening. “It would have been impossible to see his face, even if I wanted to.” “Shawn, have you actually met Mr. York? Does he have eleven toes or two heads?” she teased. Shawn laughed and replied, “Mr. York is just a regular guy—no eleven toes or two heads. He does possess above-average looks and an undeniable presence. I was quite flattered when he spoke to me.”
