Chapter 59
It was a calm and quiet night. The next morning, Serenity rose early and took the time to water the plants on the balcony. Nothing could compare to the beauty of nature.
Serenity had to admit that spending a few moments in her little garden always lifted her spirits. It helped clear her mind and soul of the lingering frustration she felt towards Zachary. This mini garden was a creation of Zachary’s efforts. After putting last night behind her, Serenity headed to the kitchen to prepare breakfast. It wasn’t long before Zachary joined her.
He approached the kitchen door, observing Serenity as she worked. His lips were pressed tightly together as he greeted her, “Morning, Serenity.” She turned her head to meet his gaze. “Morning.” “Can I help you with anything?” he asked. “I’m fine. If you’re free, you can hang the laundry and sweep the place,” she suggested. Zachary was taken aback by her directness. She certainly wasn’t shy about giving orders. However, he found himself responding, “Sure.” With that, he turned and walked away.
Zachary hung the laundry out to dry before getting down to the cleaning. The house was already quite tidy, given that it was just the two of them sharing such a spacious home and their frequent absences due to work. Nevertheless, Zachary took his time, ensuring that every corner was spotless. By the time Serenity finished preparing breakfast, he was still hard at work.
“What’s taking you so long?” Serenity murmured, grabbing the broom from him. Zachary was momentarily speechless. Serenity quickly wrapped up the cleaning in just a few minutes. He opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but ultimately decided against it. He stole a few glances at her instead. After their misunderstanding the previous night, when she had been furious enough to hit him, he was relieved to see that she appeared to be in a better mood and even made breakfast for him.
This girl was certainly not someone to be trifled with! Zachary was beginning to understand just how fierce she could be.
This is where Serenity set her boundaries. She preferred to address any issues in person, and when necessary, she would find the right moment to be straightforward. There were to be no accusations or lingering resentment; she was a laid-back person. “Feel free to look at me directly. No need to be sneaky like a peeping Tom. I’m aware I’m attractive,” she quipped.
“I could win silver in a beauty contest,” she added with a playful grin. Zachary chuckled, responding, “I expected you to say you’d take home the crown.” Serenity confidently replied, “I ought to be modest. Even if I have the potential to be the champion, I shouldn’t boast about it.”
Zachary remained silent for a moment. After washing her hands, Serenity motioned for Zachary to join her for breakfast. She had prepared egg muffins and sausages, and they each enjoyed a couple. The muffins, filled with red bell pepper, cherry tomatoes, and cheese, were Serenity’s favorite. “I’ll give you a ride to the shop later,” Zachary offered. Serenity, still focused on her meal, declined, saying, “I can just take a cab.”
“It’s not far from here. Driving you to the shop and heading to the office won’t take much of my time. I can easily adjust my working hours,” he explained. As the head of York Corporation, Zachary had the freedom to come and go as he pleased, and no one would stop him. “Alright then. Let’s leave after breakfast. Traffic gets terrible during rush hour,” he agreed. “Sure,” Serenity replied. Regardless of the situation, she was still his wife.
Zachary had both the means and the time to take her to work, and he had no intention of letting another man drive her around. Just then, Serenity’s phone began to ring. She had a habit of leaving it on the dining table during meals. Sitting next to her, Zachary could easily see her screen. The caller ID read “Pretty Boy Shawn.” Pretty boy, indeed!
