Chapter 70
“Didn’t you say you were only going to help me with the deposit?” Serenity asked Zachary quietly.
“Transfer the ownership of your car to me when we get divorced in six months,” she stated matter-of-factly. “By then, I’ll have my own car.” Zachary struggled to find the right words in response. He hastily drafted an agreement and had her sign it, but the mention of divorce lingered uncomfortably in his mind.
His demeanor shifted quickly, going from calm to icy. “Do you have the money for the car now? If not, I can make the payment, and you can send me the money later.” Serenity replied, “I don’t have it right now. I will wire you the money when I get home.” Without further discussion, Zachary turned on his heel and left Serenity behind, heading back to the dealership.
After completing the purchase, he got into his new car, not bothering to wait for Serenity. “I’m going back to the office,” he announced before driving away. Watching his car disappear, Serenity whispered to herself, “Is he upset with me? Is it because I suggested we keep our finances separate? He’s the one who mentioned the divorce, so it makes sense for us to handle our money independently. I don’t want to be responsible for any expenses during this process; that would just complicate things.”
Even though there were no lingering feelings between Serenity and Zachary, the impending divorce was still a somber affair. She worried it would put her in a bad mood if Zachary started asking for repayments. Protecting herself was a priority, and although Zachary was displeased, Serenity stood her ground.
Meanwhile, Jasmine couldn’t help but be curious. When Serenity arrived at the shop with her new car, Jasmine asked, “Did you actually go and buy a car? I thought you were going to a hotel… Hehe.” Serenity rolled her eyes in response. “You’ve been reading too many chick lit novels. I didn’t expect him to take me to a dealership. Check out my new ride, Jasmine!” This was a significant moment for her—it was her very first car.
