Chapter 85
Chapter 85
As Zachary admired the balcony garden, he softly remarked, “Once we move into a bungalow, we could fill the entire yard with roses. Just imagine how beautiful they would look as they climb up the walls in full bloom.”
Serenity smiled at his vision but responded, “The property prices have soared to an all-time high. I can hardly gather enough for a deposit on a studio apartment, let alone a bungalow.” In truth, Serenity had entertained the idea of a bungalow, but only in her dreams. Who wouldn’t want to live in a bungalow if it were within reach? The privacy of a standalone building was appealing, especially since apartments often lacked soundproofing, making them less than ideal sanctuaries.
Zachary chose to remain silent. The current place they were living in had been a rushed purchase before their marriage. Before this, he had resided in a vast mansion.
“York, grab some breakfast,” he instructed. “I’ll join you after I finish watering the flowers.”
“Sure,” Serenity replied, as Zachary turned and made his way to the dining hall. Although Serenity’s breakfasts were simple, she always found ways to switch up the recipes, keeping things interesting. She was a fantastic cook, capable of making even toast and homemade jam taste delightful. Zachary, whose taste buds had been spoiled by the finest gourmet meals, found Serenity’s humble dishes refreshingly delicious.
Today, Zachary was the first to leave the house. On his way to the office building, he encountered Josh, who raised an eyebrow at him. Zachary maintained a neutral expression as Josh asked, “What’s with the hot and bothered look?”
As they walked side by side, Josh teased him in a whisper, “What’s going on? Can’t keep your lady satisfied?” Zachary turned to Josh, giving him a sharp glare before continuing on his way.
his breakfast order.
“Knowing you, you couldn’t possibly have had a wild night,” Zachary shot back, a hint of annoyance in his tone.
“Oh?” Josh leaned in, clearly interested in Zachary’s current situation. “Why do you look like you didn’t get enough rest last night then?”
“How can you tell?” Zachary questioned. It was perplexing. How could he possibly appear disheveled when he had never experienced an exhilarating night? Moreover, Serenity didn’t exactly make his heart race, nor did he feel any primal instincts when he was with her.
Reflecting on this, Zachary had to concede that he was somewhat emotionally detached.
“I saw it with my own two eyes,” Josh replied knowingly. “Anyway, I ordered breakfast. Have you eaten? Come join me.”
Zachary turned back to his friend, pursing his lips before responding, “I have a wife. I get out of bed to find breakfast already prepared. Only singles would think to order breakfast in the office.”
Josh appeared momentarily taken aback.
“Geez,” he muttered under his breath. Zachary’s marital status certainly gave him a unique edge.
Curiosity piqued, Josh asked, “So, how’s everything going with your investigation? Don’t forget to send that file to my office later.”
With a grin, Josh reassured him, “You know you can count on me. I’ll make sure it gets delivered to your office right away.”
“Good,” Zachary replied, pleased with the arrangement.
After their brief exchange, Zachary headed to his personal elevator, making his way to the top floor. Since Josh’s office wasn’t located there, he preferred not to share the elevator with his stoic boss.
In the office, while Zachary was often perceived as a cold figure, Josh had a much warmer reputation and was well-liked among their peers. Unlike Zachary, he wasn’t seen as a mere wax figure.
As Zachary settled into his office, he was greeted by Josh, who entered with…
His breakfast delivery.
