Chapter 93
**Chapter 93**
“We’ve been running our business on this street for years. You all know what Serenity’s like. Everything that’s been said online is complete nonsense,” one of the locals declared. Serenity chose to remain mostly silent, not wanting to escalate the situation.
It was Jasmine who couldn’t bear to see people misinterpret her best friend, and she passionately defended Serenity.
Jasmine opened up about the struggles the sisters faced while under the control of the Hunts. She shared a candid account of the recent drama, where the relatives demanded that Serenity pay for their grandmother’s medical expenses and cover travel costs for the cousins after the grandmother fell ill.
Everyone present had witnessed Serenity’s true character over the years. Even the other booksellers along the street, despite their competitive nature, recognized that Serenity was not the kind of person people were making her out to be online.
With the full story now revealed, the community rallied together, determined to set the record straight for the online world. The Hunts needed to be held accountable for their actions.
This was a particularly low blow, even by the Hunts’ standards. They were taking advantage of Serenity and her sister simply because their parents were absent.
As Jasmine spotted Zachary, she playfully nudged Serenity, who was busy jotting down notes. Since the chaos began, Serenity had kept her phone on and hadn’t changed her number. However, she only accepted calls from friends and ignored any unknown numbers. The hurtful texts flooding her phone went unread.
Calm and composed, Serenity was drafting a plan of action on her notepad when Jasmine piped up, “Your man’s here, Seren.” Jasmine had really started to appreciate Zachary’s support.
He rushed to Serenity’s side during this challenging time. Despite their hasty marriage, Zachary embraced his role as a husband wholeheartedly. Serenity raised her chin confidently as Zachary approached her with steady strides.
Jasmine quickly stepped to the side, allowing some space between Zachary and Serenity. Zachary took a moment to evaluate Serenity’s emotional well-being and felt relieved to see that she was composed. His attention was drawn to a piece of paper at the cash register, which he picked up for a closer look. When he returned his gaze to her, his eyes conveyed approval.
“What brings you here?” Serenity inquired, a hint of warmth enveloping her as Zachary entered the room. She remembered his promise to always have her back, and he was proving to be true to his word by arriving just when she needed support.
“I was worried, so I came to check on you,” Zachary replied, his voice rich and reassuring. “Now that I see you’re handling things well, I can relax. Did you take some time off? I hope it doesn’t affect your work attendance.”
Interestingly, Serenity seemed more concerned about Zachary’s job than her own situation. Clearly, attendance must be vital at a large corporation. She felt a twinge of guilt at the thought of her troubles impacting his work, as that was the last thing she wanted.
Zachary gently reassured her, “I’ve been with the company for many years, so being a senior comes with certain advantages. Don’t worry about my job. A few hours off to check on you is nothing.”
