For Yangyang’s sake, they were all willing to tolerate Zhou Honglin.

Zhou Honglin had improved significantly compared to a few years ago. At least now, he truly loved Yangyang. He was no longer the man who only played with the child without genuine affection.

After facing life-and-death situations, suffering great losses, and enduring deep regret, he finally learned to cherish what mattered.

But the price of that lesson had been steep.

Zhou Honglin retrieved the nutritional supplements he had bought the day before from his car and handed them to Zhan Yin.

“Thank you for taking care of Yangyang all this time. I really appreciate it,” he said sincerely.

Zhan Yin replied calmly, “My sister entrusted Yangyang to us. Of course, we will take good care of him.”

“You don’t need to worry about him. Just focus on your work and drive safely. If you feel tired, take a break. Don’t push yourself too hard.”

Zhou Honglin made sure to pay child support on time.

Now, his income went toward supporting his son and paying off his mortgage.

In reality, life was a bit tight.

“I will. Thank you, Mr. Zhan.”

Zhan Yin gave a nod and left.

After watching him go, Zhou Honglin returned to his car and left the kindergarten shortly afterward.

He didn’t accept any new ride requests. Instead, he went shopping for a few things and then headed to visit the prison.

It had been some time since his last visit.

Not long after, Ye Jiani was brought in by the prison guards.

When she saw Zhou Honglin, she froze—clearly not expecting him to visit.

She sat down silently. It wasn’t until Zhou Honglin repeatedly gestured for her to pick up the phone that she finally lifted the receiver.

“Jiani, how have you been?” Zhou Honglin asked gently.

Ye Jiani gave a bitter smile. Her eyes quickly reddened, and tears began to stream down her face uncontrollably.

She broke down crying.

Seeing this, Zhou Honglin felt deeply uncomfortable. He tried to comfort her, urging her not to cry.
Zhou Honglin felt a deep discomfort watching her cry. He continued to comfort her gently, urging her not to cry.

Since visiting hours were limited, they needed to make the most of their time together.

“I brought you some daily necessities and a bit of money,” Zhou Honglin said. “You should focus on reforming yourself, strive for a reduced sentence, and get out as soon as you can. No matter how long it takes, I’ll be waiting for you.”

“My income isn’t high right now, but I save a little every month. When you’re released, we’ll have some money to start a new life.”

“Jiani, I’m sorry. I hurt you—it’s all my fault,” he added with guilt.

Ye Jiani gradually composed herself and replied through sobs, “I will. I’m doing my best to reform in here. You need to take care of yourself out there too.”

“It wasn’t just your fault. I was to blame as well. I was greedy in the beginning, and that led me to make terrible mistakes.”

After two or three years in prison, Ye Jiani’s anger and resentment had completely faded.

She had come to accept that her current situation wasn’t solely caused by Zhou Honglin—it was also the result of her own decisions.

From the start, she knew Zhou Honglin had a wife and child, but she stayed with him anyway.

She was knowingly the other woman.

After marrying Zhou Honglin, she became jealous when she saw Liberty’s life improving post-divorce. She resented her in-laws for being two-faced and gradually turned into a bitter, angry woman.

Eventually, she made a terrible mistake.

When she stabbed Zhou Honglin, she did so hoping the additional charges would lead to a death sentence. At that point, she genuinely wanted to die.

Life had become too painful.

She believed death would be a release—a form of freedom.

But Zhou Honglin signed a letter of forgiveness, sparing her from the death penalty.

He also told her he would wait for her, no matter how many years it took.

Since her incarceration, not a single family member had come to visit her.

She suspected they didn’t even mention her anymore.

What she hadn’t expected was that, after all they had been through, the one person still willing to wait for her and offer her a second chance was Zhou Honglin.
