Lan Ruoruo said, “…Brother, Zhan Wei and I are sworn enemies. To deal with an enemy, you have to understand him first—know his background and details—before you can defeat him.”

Know yourself and your enemy, and you’ll win every battle. This isn’t about matchmaking.

“I’m just saying,” Lan Dongxiao replied. “I won’t force you to be with him. I just hope you’ll look at him from a different angle—he’s truly impressive.”

“There are a lot of women who like him.”

Lan Ruoruo curled her lips. “So what? I don’t like him.”

“No matter how many girls fall for him, that’s his business. It has nothing to do with me.”

After a brief pause, she muttered, “Besides, he doesn’t like me either.”

Lan Dongxiao smiled and didn’t press the subject. Instead, he told his sister, “You should attend the business reception on Saturday night. I won’t be going.”

“Saturday night? And today’s Wednesday. Got it.”

Lan Ruoruo had attended countless business events before and was highly experienced.

Even if it was a last-minute assignment, she could still handle it well.

“Zhan Wei might attend too.”

Lan Ruoruo’s face instantly darkened. “Who organized this reception? Don’t they know what kind of relationship Zhan Wei and I have? It’s either him or me—one of us has to go.”

She had no desire to see Zhan Wei at the event.

They had clashed at previous banquets, always ending in conflict. Worse still, it annoyed her how popular he was—with both men and women fawning over him.

“It’s hosted by Mr. Lei. His family’s business doesn’t overlap with ours. He’s well-respected in Yangcheng’s business circles and invited both us and Yangtai.”

Since there were no competing interests, Mr. Lei wasn’t concerned about offending either party.

Both the Lan family and Zhan Wei would give Mr. Lei face and maintain a level of decorum to avoid causing embarrassment at his event.

“Also, Zhan Wei’s sister-in-law is visiting. She’ll probably stay in Yangcheng for a while, and he wants to take her and his nieces and nephews sightseeing. So he might skip the cocktail party altogether.”
“Yes, Zhan Wei’s sister-in-law is coming to visit. She’ll probably stay in Yangcheng for a while. Zhan Wei wants to take her and the kids around to have some fun. He might miss the cocktail party.”

Lan Ruoruo didn’t want to skip the event.

The Lei Group was undergoing a transformation, and she was eager to pursue a partnership with them. She planned to use Saturday night’s cocktail party as an opportunity to discuss collaboration with Mr. Lei.

So, while she didn’t want to miss the event, she also didn’t want to run into Zhan Wei—she was hoping he wouldn’t show up.

“But the cocktail party doesn’t start until the evening. That won’t interfere with Zhan Wei attending. His sister-in-law brought the kids over for sightseeing—he can’t possibly put aside all his work to accompany them the whole time,” Lan Dongxiao said.

“He can just arrange for a driver to take them to the tourist spots. He doesn’t need to go with them personally.”

“By the way, is Zhan Wei’s sister-in-law easy to get along with? What’s his attitude toward her?” he asked, curiosity piqued.

Lan Ruoruo didn’t think much of it and replied, “She’s very easy to get along with. Her name is Haitong, but she asked me to call her Sister Tong. I have a great impression of her.”

“And her two kids are absolutely adorable. Brother, I’ve never seen children so smart and cute. I really like Beibei—she’s Zhan Wei’s little niece. She’s just over a year old and already walking. She can’t speak clearly yet but can say a couple of words.”

“His nephew is called Bao Bao. Together, their nicknames form the word ‘Baobao,’ which shows just how loved they are in the family.”

“If I had such clever and lovable nieces or nephews, I’d dote on them as if they were my own children.”

“From what I’ve seen of Zhan Wei’s behavior, he’s very respectful toward his sister-in-law. She’s not much older than he is, so she couldn’t have raised him, yet he still shows her a great deal of respect. I think it’s because he deeply respects his older brother.”

Love and respect often extend to those connected to someone you admire.

Because Zhan Wei respects his older brother, he treats his sister-in-law with warmth as well.

“In that case, Zhan Wei’s family must have a solid tradition.”

“Is he originally from Dongguan City?”
