“I didn’t go out. I heard a car and came out to check.”

“You didn’t have any plans tonight, so why are you back so late?” Lan Dongxiao asked. Noticing his sister carrying several bags, he smiled and said, “Went shopping? What did you buy?”

Lan Ruoruo walked into the house with her brother and handed him the bags. “I went shopping with a new friend. She was buying clothes for her husband, and I was bored, so I picked up a few sets for my brother.”

Lan Dongxiao replied, “Brother, you don’t need more clothes. There are still plenty in your closet that you haven’t even worn yet.”

“I don’t shop often. Since I did today, I bought you a few sets. Don’t you like them?”

Lan Dongxiao quickly said, “I like them, of course I do. If my sister gives them to me, how could I not like them? Didn’t you get anything for yourself?”

“There wasn’t anything I wanted. I ended up buying a bunch of toys for my friend’s kids.”

The siblings sat down together on the living room sofa.

“Are Mom and Dad already asleep?”

“Yeah, they’ve been focused on their health lately, so they went to bed early.”

Since their retirement, their parents had stepped away from responsibilities, focusing entirely on health and wellness, aiming to stay young and active.

Their grandfather, though elderly, still served as the company’s chairman. But their parents retired early, saying that she and her brother were capable enough to take over, and that it was time for the younger generation to grow.

Lan Ruoruo said, “I really admire Mom and Dad. They’ve taken care of their health from an early age. When Mom and I go out, people think she’s my sister. They can’t believe she’s actually my mom—she maintains herself so well.”

“Dad too. My brother and I are about the same age now, but Dad looks like he’s my age.”

Lan Dongxiao felt his father looked so youthful because he lived so leisurely. After handing over the company to him, their father spent his days traveling with their mother.

“Sister Tong isn’t his biological sister-in-law. She’s his cousin. But she said the Zhan family doesn’t divide their households—they all live under one roof, go in and out through the same gate, and the brothers, uncles, and nephews get along really well.”

“Zhan Wei is especially good with his nieces and nephews, particularly Beibei.”

“That little girl is so adorable and sweet. She talks really well for her age and is so charming, I couldn’t help but want to hug her.”
