Lin’s mother woke up from a nap and checked the time; it was past midnight.
She got up, left her room, and looked towards her son’s master bedroom. She noticed the door was ajar, meaning her son hadn’t returned yet.
If he were home, he would close the door at night, not leave it ajar.
The ajar door meant he wasn’t back.
Lin’s mother frowned, muttering, “Where has he gone in the middle of the night? Why isn’t he back yet?”
She turned back into her room, picked up her phone, and called her son.
The call connected, but her son didn’t answer.
After several attempts with the same result, Lin’s mother grew frightened, fearing something had happened to her son. She quickly woke her husband, anxiously saying, “Old Lin, A-Jian hasn’t come home yet, it’s already past midnight.”
“I called him, the call went through, but he didn’t answer. It’s been like this several times.”
“Could something have happened to A-Jian?”
Lin’s father rubbed his eyes, saying, “A-Jian is a grown man, what could have happened to him? He’s probably out drinking with his friends.”
