He handed me the phone we had confiscated from Sammy and pressed play. I watched as the large black wolf leapt through the air and saved Judy. My stomach twisted at the sight. I couldn’t help but wonder—did Judy know it was Sammy who saved her?

The office door opened again, and Taylor stepped in.

“We managed to take the news articles down,” he announced. “The media are on their way to get a statement from you. I went ahead and contacted Mica and Jeremy as well; they’re sending over proof and statements to support you. I didn’t bother reaching out to Levi—considering it was his daughter who did this, I have a strong feeling he’s behind it.” He paused and turned to Derek. “You did mention that part, right?”

Derek nodded.

“Yes, I just filled him in,” he confirmed.

“Good work, both of you,” I said, settling at my desk, trying to calm my racing thoughts. “Once I give my statement—with the other Lycans backing me and the evidence they provide—it should clear Judy’s name. No one will be able to accuse her of cheating. This needs to be wrapped up by tonight.”

They both nodded, their faces pale.

“What a mess,” Taylor muttered.

“Are you really going to do what your mother said and stop seeing her?” Derek asked, eyeing me closely.

I scoffed.

“When have I ever listened to my mother?” I said, narrowing my eyes. “Now both of you, get out. I’ve got a phone call to make. And Derek—bring Sammy to me in silver cuffs. I have a few things to say to her. After that, take her to the pack police station. I want her held in a cell until we decide what to do next.”

He nodded in reply.

“Just remember—she’s a Lycan’s daughter. We can’t kill her without risking a war,” Taylor warned.

I rolled my eyes.

“For now, I just want answers.”
Taylor nodded.

After a moment of silence, they finally left me alone in my office. I picked up my phone and dialed a specific number, pressing it to my ear and waiting with bated breath.

“Alpha Landry,” Richard Montague answered. “What can I do for you?”

“Delta Richard, have you seen the news this evening?” I asked, my voice firm as my Alpha aura pulsed outward, mingling with the intensity of my Lycan presence.

He cleared his throat, his voice strained.

“Yes,” he said. “I’ve seen the article.”

I exhaled slowly, wondering if he had already confronted Judy about it.

“I want you to know that I’m handling it. Your daughter’s name will be cleared before the night is over. The article implies she won the competition because of her relationship with me, which couldn’t be further from the truth—and we have evidence to prove it.”

Silence stretched on the other end.

“Is that Gavin?” I heard Judy ask softly, her voice weak and broken. My heart clenched at the sound. She was clearly upset.

Of course she was—her name was being dragged through the mud, and her family was likely tearing into her for it. A wave of anger surged through me, and I had to swallow it down before I said something to her father that I’d regret. More than anything, I just wanted to hold Judy and tell her everything would be okay—that I’d fix it.

Richard didn’t respond to his daughter.

“I trust you’ll take care of it, Alpha,” he said at last, his tone sharp. “And I trust you’ll do right by my daughter by staying away from her. I mean no disrespect, but as a father, I hope you can understand my concern. Your relationship with her is inappropriate, and I won’t let it ruin her reputation.”

With that, Richard hung up, cutting the line—and cutting our ties—leaving me staring at the phone screen, jaw slack.

The office door burst open, and Derek rushed in, out of breath.

“Alpha, Sammy is gone.”
