Vasily stood up, saluted Charlie, and said in slightly awkward Chinese, “Hello, Shao Ye! I’ll be your skydiving instructor this time. If you’re ready, I can take you on the jump.”

Charlie nodded and asked, “What should I pay attention to if I jump by myself?”

After that, he handed Charlie a special watch and said, “Master Ye, this watch will monitor your altitude, temperature, body temperature, heart rate, and GPS location in real time. Once you parachute, open your limbs to slow your descent and use them to guide your direction. I’ll use your GPS coordinates to give you real-time instructions over the radio, helping you stay on target for your landing.”

He continued, “I’ve also set a reminder for when to open your parachute. When you reach the right height, the watch will vibrate and make a sound. That’s your cue to pull the main parachute switch.”

Charlie took the watch and strapped it onto his wrist. Vasily then picked up a parachute bag and pointed to a pull ring at the bottom, explaining further.

Just then, Han Guangyao spoke up. “Master, the plane is ready for takeoff.”

Charlie turned to him. “How long is the flight expected to be?”

Han Guangyao replied, “The straight-line distance is just over 100 kilometers. The plane can take off in five minutes, and we should be close to our destination in about 15 to 20 minutes.”

“Okay,” Charlie said calmly. “Let’s get ready for takeoff!”

“Understood, Master!” Han Guangyao responded. He walked into the cockpit, and after a few commands, the aircraft’s engine started. The plane slowly rolled out of the hangar.

In the hangar, the plane rolled to the end of the runway and then took off with great speed. Two minutes later, it soared into the sky, heading straight over Syria.

Once they were in Syrian airspace, Han Guangyao used a tablet to pull up a map of northwestern Syria. He said to Charlie Wade, “Master, it’s cloudy today. The visibility isn’t great, so skydiving might be spotted easily during the day. That’s why we’ve chosen this landing spot.” He pointed to a location on the screen, drew a red circle around it, and then marked a valley with an arrow. “This is where you’ll land. After landing, your destination is about five kilometers away. It’s safer to walk there.”

Charlie waved his hand, expressing concern. “But it’s a mountainous area. Even if it’s only five kilometers in a straight line, I’ll have to cross two hills. I’m not sure how long that will take. Is there a better way?”
