Syria, like other countries in the Middle East, is experiencing winter, which means it’s the rainiest season. The sky is filled with thick, dark clouds that block the sun and make the air humid. This weather is actually good for Charlie Wade, as clear skies would make it nearly impossible for him to parachute in during the day. The clouds give him the confidence he needs to jump closer to the enemy’s base.

As Vasily counted down, Charlie Wade prepared himself. “Three, two, one, jump!” Vasily shouted. Before leaping out of the plane, Charlie turned to his team and said, “See you all in six hours!” Without hesitation, he jumped into the thick clouds.

Once he was outside, Charlie felt a rush of cold air. At over 5,000 meters high, the temperature was about 30 degrees Celsius lower than on the ground. While the temperature down below was about 15 degrees Celsius, Charlie was surrounded by freezing air at around minus 15 degrees. But he didn’t let the cold distract him; he focused on keeping his body stable during the free fall.

In the clouds, Charlie couldn’t see what was below him. Thankfully, he could hear Vasily’s voice through the radio. “Master Ye, your speed and direction are stable. You’re falling about 50 meters every second. Keep it steady, and you’ll reach a safe height in about one and a half minutes.”

“Okay, I understand!” Charlie replied.

After ten seconds, he finally broke through the clouds. At that moment, a small amount of sunlight peeked through, illuminating the landscape below him.

Raindrops were starting to form under the clouds, and it looked like rain was on the way. Charlie Wade gazed down at the endless mountains below him. The scenery in the Middle East was striking, with a yellowish hue, and some mountain tops were higher due to the plateau, still capped with white snow.

As he looked closer, Charlie noticed small villages nestled in the valleys. Although they were far away, he could tell that the houses were mostly low earth structures, showing clear signs of poverty.

As he approached, he could see the village more clearly. It was surrounded by two mountain peaks to the east and west, with entrances to the village on the north and south sides. At these entrances, there were armored vehicles parked along with trenches and defensive positions. It was clear that these were crucial points for the opposing armed forces.

In the center of the village, a small circular square held four helicopter gunships. On the mountain peaks, Charlie could also see man-made fortifications and observation decks, with people moving about inside them.

Charlie quickly assessed the situation in his mind. Being alone, he needed to sneak into the enemy’s territory without being detected, so the north and south entrances were not options. The best way in was through the peaks on the east and west sides.

The opposing forces were aware that the government troops lacked the ability to conduct large-scale air strikes. If there were to be an attack, it was most likely to come from the ground. The mountains provided a natural barrier, and Charlie was determined to find a way through.

There were only two ways for the government forces to attack: from the north and south. The east and west sides were blocked, making it nearly impossible for soldiers to sneak in, especially with heavy equipment. Because of this, the defenses on the east and west were weak, only protected by a few soldiers, some heavy machine guns, and stinger missiles.

Charlie Wade felt confident that he could sneak in without being noticed. Even if he was spotted, he wasn’t worried. The heavy machine guns couldn’t shoot very high, and their bullets followed a curved path due to gravity. The Stinger missiles were powerful but could only target planes, making them useless against someone like Charlie.

Just then, Vasily spoke through Charlie’s earpiece. “Master Ye, you need to open your parachute in ten seconds!”

Charlie checked his watch. He planned to open his parachute at about 500 meters, but to be safe, he wanted to land on a slope on the east side instead of the mountain’s peak, where the defenses were stronger. “I want to open the parachute at 200 meters,” he said.

“200 meters?!” Vasily exclaimed. “If you open it that low, you’ll fall right in front of the mountain’s defenses! You won’t have enough time to slow down, and the impact will feel like jumping from…”

“Climbing seven or eight stories without any safety gear is really dangerous!”
