The height of seven or eight floors can be quite dangerous for most people. But for Charlie Wade, it was no big deal. His main concern was not the height itself, but whether he would be spotted by his enemies as he descended.

To ease his worries, Charlie reached into his pocket and felt the thunder warning he kept there. This thunder alert was made from the special Wannian Lightning Strike Wood, a gift from Song Wanting. It was known as the best type of lightning strike wood and was Charlie’s most reliable weapon.

Even though he had used this thunder warning many times before and it was now cracked, it still had a few uses left. Charlie wasn’t a fan of using it because it made a lot of noise, but this time he decided to use it to boost his chances of success.

The entire mountain area was quiet. There were very few people around, and hardly any cars on the road. The only sounds were the wind and a light drizzle. Suddenly, a bolt of lightning shot across the western sky like a divine whip! It struck the mountaintop, instantly turning several soldiers in the nearby fortifications to ashes.

Moments later, a deafening thunderclap echoed through the valley, sounding like an explosion. On an airplane nearby, Han Guangyao was startled by the noise and exclaimed, “Damn! How can there be thunderstorms in winter in a place like the Middle East?!”

Vasily, a skydiving expert who also had a background in meteorology, looked stunned and murmured in disbelief.

“This… this isn’t scientific! I checked today’s satellite weather map, and the conditions aren’t right for thunderclouds to form!”

The crew of the aircraft was puzzled. They were highly experienced pilots, and they understood weather well. They knew how different climates and weather patterns worked and could usually tell what to expect just by looking. But no one expected a thunderstorm to appear in what should have been a calm winter day with no rain.

Only Chen Zekai felt a sense of relief after hearing the loud rumble of thunder. He knew it must have been caused by Charlie Wade.

At that moment, everyone else — the opposition soldiers, local villagers, and even the eight hostages, including He Zhiqiu — were startled by the sudden explosion of thunder. The noise was so intense that many felt they had never experienced anything like it in their lives. Some even experienced ringing in their ears, and those with sensitive eardrums felt sharp pain.

Except for those who were imprisoned, most people rushed outside or turned to look towards West Mountain, where the thunder and lightning had struck. The few surviving soldiers on the mountain were in a panic, reporting through their radios about the situation.

When they learned that five soldiers had been killed by lightning, shock rippled through the entire opposition group. They had never faced anything so terrifying. How could a single bolt of lightning take down five people? Many soldiers began to believe this was a sign of divine anger and knelt down in fear.

He knelt on the ground without hesitation, bowing towards the West Mountain, and prayed for the gods’ forgiveness. Unlike most soldiers, who had little education, the leader of the opposing forces was well-educated; he had studied at a military academy. When he heard the news, he quickly understood that the fortifications on top of the West Mountain had been struck by lightning. Being at a higher elevation, they were more likely to attract lightning.

Without wasting any time, he ordered all the soldiers at Dongshanding fortification to take cover inside to avoid another lightning strike. This decision proved beneficial for Charlie Waid. As the soldiers on the eastern mountaintop received the message, they all hurried into their bunkers, fearful of being hit by lightning.

While the soldiers on the eastern mountain took shelter, others stared towards the west in fear. In the gray sky overhead, an unremarkable figure plummeted from the eastern sky towards the base at an alarming speed.
