Charlie Wade took a deep breath and pointed to the man lying on the ground. “Take off his pants and set him up. Just make sure no one finds him tonight.”

“Got it!” the other person replied eagerly. He stepped forward, removed the man’s pants, and then lifted him up, hiding him in an old, broken house in an abandoned courtyard nearby.

Charlie Wade quickly changed into the man’s clothes. The person he had given instructions to returned, looking respectful. “It’s all set as you ordered!”

Charlie nodded and asked, “What’s your name?”

“Faisal,” the man replied quickly.

Charlie then asked, “Faisal, do you have a face mask?”

Faisal hurriedly pulled out a black mask from his pocket, still in its plastic bag. “This was sent out just two days ago and hasn’t been used yet.”

Charlie took the mask and opened it. It was a full head covering that wrapped around his head and covered most of his face, leaving only a small slit for his eyes.

“Will I look too different wearing this?” Charlie asked Faisal.

“No!” Faisal said confidently. “Many people wear headgear. It helps to keep faces hidden from outsiders and protects against wind and dust. Plus, some commanders worry about getting decapitated, so they require their men to wear it when they go out. It can really confuse the enemy.”

Charlie felt relieved. After putting the headgear on, he said, “Alright, you can take me over now!”

Faisal nodded, ready to lead him.

nodded without hesitation. He bent down to pick up two AK-47s and handed one to Charlie Wade. “Please put the gun on your back!” he said.

Charlie Wade wasn’t worried about being threatened with a gun. After taking the AK-47, he strapped it on and walked towards the center of the village with Faisal.

As they walked, they passed many soldiers, some of whom were on patrol. A few recognized Faisal and greeted him. Even though Faisal moved a bit slowly, he seemed normal overall, so no one suspected anything.

Charlie Wade wore a headgear, which made it hard for others to recognize him. He didn’t speak or greet anyone because only people who knew him well would be able to tell who he was. Since none of the soldiers knew him, they simply saw him as a stranger. In fact, among the group of soldiers, Charlie Wade would likely be seen as an outsider.

When they reached the square in the village center, Charlie Wade noticed many soldiers busily working around four helicopters. He leaned closer to Faisal and whispered, “What are those people doing?”

Faisal quickly replied, “They are part of the helicopter brigade, mostly maintenance staff. Today’s weather is cloudy, and visibility is low. We need to send helicopters on patrol to monitor if any government forces are approaching quietly.”

Charlie Wade nodded, then thought of something and asked, “By the way, can you fly a helicopter?”

Faisal shook his head. “I can’t.”

“I belong to the armored brigade. I can drive tanks and infantry vehicles,” she said.

Charlie Wade nodded, unsure of how to rescue He Zhiqiu after saving her. He still didn’t have a clear plan. It would be easier to save He Zhiqiu on her own. He could carry her and quietly escape along the mountain road to meet Chen Zekai and the others. That wouldn’t be too difficult.

But saving He Zhiqiu along with her seven friends would be much harder on his own.

With that thought in mind, Charlie pushed it aside. “It’s not the time to worry about this,” he told himself. “I’ll figure it out when I get to someone!”
