Chapter: 2681
If the seven people really died like this, He Zhiqiu would find it hard to forgive herself. She feared that this could lead her into deep depression, making her feel like she couldn’t go on.
Thinking about this, Charlie Wade asked her, “If your friends survive, will you be able to overcome this feeling?”
He Zhiqiu nodded slightly and asked, “Can you save them?”
Charlie looked at Hamid and said, “Let’s be honest, even if you kill all seven of them, the White House won’t give you any money.”
Hamid understood this too. He nodded and replied, “True, they have no plans to pay. They’ve already kept this news quiet in the Western world. Even if I killed them all, the media wouldn’t report it.”
He sighed and, with determination, said, “Alright, if you need it, I’ll let them go, or send another helicopter to bring them here.”
He Zhiqiu was taken aback by this.
But Charlie quickly waved his hand and said, “No, I just want them to survive. I don’t want to take them away.”
Hamid asked urgently, “What do you mean?”
Charlie explained, “Don’t kill them. Just keep them as workers. They can do things like make jerseys, cook, dig trenches, and transport goods for your army. They can still be useful. Letting them live and work for you in Syria is better than just getting rid of them.”
Hamid immediately understood what Charlie was suggesting. He realized that Charlie didn’t really want to save those men, but he was doing it for He Zhiqiu’s sake.
“Since you say so, my brother, I agree,” Hamid said.
“Don’t worry, I will take good care of them. I’ll give them some food so they can survive, and honestly, I deserve a reward for it,” said Charlie Wade.
He Zhiqiu nodded and then asked, “Are you satisfied with just letting them live? They won’t be killed, right?”
He Zhiqiu replied angrily, “You could easily take them away. Why choose to leave them here?”
Charlie Wade shot back, “That’s a joke. I left them a dog, which is already generous of me. Why should I save them?”
He Zhiqiu couldn’t hold back her frustration. “They could be free again if you just said the word! Why won’t you help them?”
“Help them?” Charlie Wade sneered. “Why should I? There are millions of refugees in Syria and over 700 million people in Europe. If everyone in Europe just donated one small piece of bread a day, those refugees could feed themselves. But they don’t, and why is that? Why are they still hungry?”
Then he continued, “In Africa, there are 400 million extremely poor people, and the developed countries together have nearly one billion people. It’s clear that if just two people from those developed countries helped one African person, there would be no extreme poverty left. So why don’t they do it?”
He Zhiqiu fell silent, her face flushed, unable to come up with a good response.
Charlie Wade continued, his tone cold, “You think it’s so easy for me to save someone with just a word, and you act like I have to do it. That’s a flawed way of thinking! Bill Gates is incredibly rich. Why don’t you ask him to pay 70 million dollars to save seven of his fellow countrymen? It would be easy for him.”
He Zhiqiu blurted out:
“You… you are changing your mind!”
Charlie Wade scoffed, “Changing my mind secretly?”
“Let me ask you something. Among those seven people, is one of them my relative?”
He paused and asked again, “Is one of them my brother?”
“What about my friend? Is one of them my friend?”
He continued, “Is one of them my countryman?”
“None of them are my relatives, siblings, friends, or countrymen!”
He shook his head, “If I help someone who has nothing to do with me, it’s a kindness. If I don’t help, that’s just my choice!”
He concluded, “Even if I could help them with a single word, I don’t owe it to them! What do they want from me?”
