Charlie Wade nodded and said, “If you want my honest opinion, you’re really missing the point here. It’s not just about right or wrong; you’re looking at it from the wrong angle. If you truly want to help reduce wars in the world, you should be protesting outside the White House in Washington, not in Syria. After all, your country is responsible for at least half of the wars happening today.”
He Zhiqiu nodded slightly and quickly added, “Mr. Ye, I want to clarify that I’m not what you might call a ‘banana person.’”
Charlie Wade raised an eyebrow, intrigued. “What’s a banana person?”
He Zhiqiu explained, “Banana people are Chinese individuals who were born and raised in the United States. They have the appearance of Asians but think like Westerners.”
Charlie Wade asked, “But don’t you think like a Westerner?”
He Zhiqiu shook his head. “Even though I was born and raised in the U.S. and hold American citizenship, my parents taught me that my roots are in China. They wanted me to remember that no matter where I go, I carry China with me.”
Charlie Wade nodded in understanding. “But I heard your dad say you don’t seem interested in going back to China?”
He Zhiqiu sighed. “The main reason is that I have some difficulties communicating with him. This issue has always been there between us. When I was younger, he was often busy making money and traveling, so he didn’t have time for me. I missed out on a father’s love, and our relationship became strained. After my mother passed away, things got even worse, and not wanting to return to China became my way of avoiding the reality of our relationship.”
He Zhiqiu sighed and said, “I’ve thought about this. Even if I don’t want to improve my relationship with him right now, when he gets older, I will still need to take care of him. I always believed he was still in his fifties, and I didn’t realize how urgent it was until now…”
Charlie Wade nodded, understanding her feelings. “If you find it hard to connect with him right now, that’s okay. You need to go to Jinling. Your father’s greatest hope is for your safety. If you need some space, I believe he will understand.”
He Zhiqiu quickly replied, “But I promised you…”
Then she paused, feeling embarrassed. “But you might think I’m not capable of doing the job right now. I made a big mistake in judging the situation.”
Charlie waved his hand dismissively. “That’s not the same thing. Just because someone misjudges a friend doesn’t mean they’ll make mistakes in other areas. I believe that true talent doesn’t fit the mold of mediocrity.”
He continued, “A person who is balanced in everything isn’t a true talent; they’re just average. Real talent shines in specific areas. If you excel in certain aspects, then you are a genius.”
Charlie looked serious as he added, “You must have seen many inspirational Hollywood movies. Some people may seem silly, but they are brilliant in math. Others may not know much, yet they can play basketball like stars. Some can hardly speak, yet they are top physicists or astronomers.”
He concluded, “Even a genius like Einstein had his own limitations.”
He Zhiqiu listened carefully and nodded. “Mr. Ye, as long as you give me a chance, I will work my hardest to help you succeed in this business!”
Charlie Wade smiled back. “That’s wonderful to hear. Also, when you go to Jinling this time, I think you should take some time to relax with Uncle He. He really cares about you. If it weren’t for him, I wouldn’t have been able to come to Syria to rescue you.”
