When He Yuanjiang heard his daughter He Zhiqiu speak, he was taken aback. Looking at her face, he shouted in disbelief, “Is that really you, Autumn?” Even though He Zhiqiu was right in front of him, he couldn’t wrap his mind around the idea that she was truly his daughter. In his heart, he believed she was still in Syria and thought there was no way she could just appear in front of him.

He had just spoken to Charlie Wade, and even Charlie hadn’t seen her. The U.S. hadn’t sent anyone to rescue her, so the Syrian opposition forces holding her wouldn’t let her go. Even if they did show mercy, it seemed impossible for her to be in Jinling so soon. So, in that moment, he was confused and didn’t know how to respond.

He Zhiqiu felt excited and grateful to see her father, but when he didn’t recognize her, she felt a pang of disappointment. Looking at him with anger, she said, “I’m standing right here! Don’t you believe me?”

He Yuanjiang quickly replied, “I believe you, Coco. But how did you get to Jinling? This can’t be real!”

He Zhiqiu shook her head in frustration and turned to Charlie Wade, who was leaning against the wall. She said to her father, “If you want to know how I got here, just ask him.”

At that moment, He Yuanjiang, still standing in the doorway, finally noticed Charlie hiding outside. He hurriedly looked out to see him.

Wade took off his mask and looked at He Yuanjiang. Charlie Wade noticed the shock and doubt in He Yuanjiang’s eyes. He smiled and waved, saying, “Hi, Uncle He.”

“Charlie Wade?!” He Yuanjiang exclaimed, clearly surprised. “What’s going on here?!”

Charlie Wade smiled and asked, “Can you come inside and talk?”

He Yuanjiang snapped back to reality and replied excitedly, “Come in!”

Charlie Wade and He Zhiqiu entered He Yuanjiang’s office together. He Yuanjiang took He Zhiqiu and sat on the sofa with him. Charlie Wade held up the mask he had just removed and joked, “I guess this thing doesn’t suit me.”

He Yuanjiang, eager to know more, urged, “Oh, tell me what happened! Didn’t you say you were in Syria? Did you both lie to me?”

Charlie Wade chuckled, “I was just trying to surprise you!”

He Yuanjiang nodded, saying quickly, “It definitely is a surprise! A great surprise!” He then asked, “Tell me how you got back so soon. Was it an easy process?”

Charlie Wade replied, “It didn’t start well, but it got better. I met the commander of the opposition and we became friends. Because of that, I was able to bring Zhiqiu back.”

He Yuanjiang turned to He Zhiqiu and asked, “Zhiqiu, did you feel safe over there?”
