Chapter: 2883
Twenty minutes later, the taxi arrived at Fenghuangshan Cemetery, the largest cemetery in the suburbs of Jinling City. The cemetery spread across several hills and covered a vast area. During the day, many people came to pay their respects, but at night, it was so quiet that you wouldn’t even see a dog around.
After the taxi dropped off Mike and his grandfather, Mai Chengxing, at the entrance, it sped away into the night. Under the dim moonlight, Mike looked nervously at the large white marble gate in front of them. “Grandpa, why isn’t there anyone here?” he asked.
Mai Chengxing shook his head. “I don’t know. The gate is closed, and I can’t tell if it’s locked. Can you check for me?”
As they approached the gate, Mike pushed on it, but it wouldn’t budge. “Grandpa, it’s locked!” he exclaimed.
Mai Chengxing frowned and pulled out his cell phone to call Xuan Fengnian. Just then, a middle-aged man in a security uniform emerged from the darkness. He walked quickly, but his movements seemed stiff, as if his limbs were not quite in sync.
Seeing someone suddenly appear from the shadows startled Mike. He instinctively pulled Mai Chengxing back, but his grandfather gently pushed his hand away and whispered, “Stay still!”
Mai Chengxing focused on the approaching security guard, and as he got closer, he noticed the man was covered in dirt and bleeding. A shiver ran through Mai Chengxing’s body.
For Mike, this was the first time he had encountered something like this, and fear made him tremble. He couldn’t shake the feeling that the security guard seemed…
It was a chilling sight—a dead body, a tragic scene. Mai Chengxing felt a wave of horror wash over him, but being an experienced person, he managed to stay calmer than Mike. He focused intently on the security guard, determined not to let his guard down, though he didn’t step back.
The security guard, with a blank expression, pulled out a key and opened the iron gate. Instead of coming out, he just stood there and waved at the grandfather and grandson before turning and walking toward the cemetery.
Mike’s legs felt weak with fear. He turned to Mai Chengxing and asked, “Grandpa, what does he want us to do by waving at us?”
With a serious tone, Mai Chengxing replied, “He wants us to follow him. Let’s go in and see what’s happening.”
As they entered, Mike’s heart raced with panic. “Grandpa, I don’t think he’s a man or a ghost. We have no idea what’s inside. I really think we shouldn’t go in!”
Mai Chengxing observed the security guard’s stiff back and said calmly, “That man died long ago. He’s nothing more than a puppet now.”
