Chapter: 2895
With Mike’s help, Mai Chengxing rushed back to their room. When they entered, they found it in complete disarray. Both Mai and Mike’s suitcases had been rummaged through, and the Feng Shui compass was missing. It was wrapped in silk and satin and usually kept safe in the suitcase.
Mai noticed that the RMB they had exchanged for their trip and some emergency U.S. dollars were also gone. Panic set in, and he exclaimed, “I lost money and other things, but the compass is the worst!”
Mike, though not knowledgeable about Feng Shui, understood how important the compass was to the Mai family. It had been passed down through generations, starting from their ancestors who practiced Feng Shui. The compass wasn’t just valuable; its historical significance was priceless. More importantly, it was believed to have special powers, allowing the Mai family to assess Feng Shui with greater accuracy than regular compasses.
If they lost this compass, the Mai family’s ability to practice Feng Shui would be severely affected. Mike quickly suggested, “Grandpa, we should call the police!”
Mai Chengxing nodded vigorously, “Yes, call the police! Hurry!”
Just then, Chen Zekai walked in and said, “Don’t worry, both of you. I’ve already contacted the police.”
Mai and Mike turned to see him dressed in a suit and leather shoes.
Mai Chengxing looked at the man in front of him and asked, “Excuse me, who are you?”
Chen Zekai quickly responded, “Oh, I forgot to introduce myself! I’m Chen Zekai, the general manager of the Buckingham Palace Hotel.”
He then added with a hint of embarrassment, “As the hotel manager, I feel terrible that this has happened. When I heard about the burglary, I rushed over right away. I’ve already called the police, and they should be here soon.”
Hearing that Chen Zekai had called the police, Mike decided not to make the call himself.
At that moment, Mai Chengxing spoke with some annoyance, “Mr. Chen, your Buckingham Palace is a famous hotel chain. I’ve stayed in your hotels many times around the world!”
He continued, “Every time, the security and service have been excellent. I’ve never lost anything before. Even the tips for waiters are only taken from cash left on the bed, nowhere else!”
“But now,” he said, growing more upset, “it’s your hotel where the burglary happened! They stole one of my most valuable family heirlooms! This is unacceptable!”
Chen Zekai smiled awkwardly and quickly apologized, “Mr. Mai, I’m very sorry, and I’m just as shocked that this happened in our hotel. To be honest, this is the first time since we opened…”
As he spoke, he couldn’t help but ask, “Mr. Mai, how valuable is your family heirloom? Do you think someone specifically targeted it for theft?”
With that question, Chen Zekai shifted the focus back to Mai Chengxing, following the advice he had learned from Charlie Wade.
Charlie Wade spoke confidently, saying, “This trick is called ‘returning troubles.'”
He looked at the person questioning him and replied, “If you want to ask me something, I’ll turn the question back to you.”
He continued, “If you say our security is weak, I might suggest that you could have been targeted. As for who did the targeting, that’s something you’ll have to figure out for yourself.”
He added with a smirk, “And here’s something interesting: Even if something was stolen from Mai Chengxing’s room, it was actually Chen Zekai who recorded the live video to show me. In the end, I chose the compass.”
“Isn’t that something?” Charlie said with a grin.
