- The Amazing Son-in-Law [The Charismatic Charlie Wade] (Chinese name) Chapter: 6943
Tawanna was surprised when Charlie Wade didn’t answer her question. Instead, he turned the question back to her.
The topic of illegal immigration is very sensitive, much like issues related to LGBT rights. Tawanna knew that if she said something politically incorrect, she could face backlash.
So, she kept a serious expression and replied, “I believe the immigration issue should be handled by the U.S. government. The U.S. has laws to address these problems, as long as they ensure fairness and justice in how they are enforced.”
After saying this, she felt a bit proud and looked at Charlie Wade, asking, “What is Mr. Ye’s view on LGBT rights?”
Charlie smiled and responded, “If you think everything should be left to the law, then you shouldn’t ask me about LGBT issues or try to advocate for them. Isn’t there a law for everything? If there’s a legal solution, we should let the law handle it and focus on what we need to do without mixing in legal matters.”
Tawanna was momentarily speechless. She hadn’t expected Charlie to turn the tables on her. It also sounded like he was suggesting she was being too nosy.
Just when she was unsure how to reply, Charlie continued, “In fact, you mentioned that it’s unfair to leave the illegal immigration issue to the law. At least when you personally consider LGBT individuals and illegal immigrants, you place them in a less favorable position.”
“That’s not unfair!” Tawanna quickly shot back. “What I mean is that every group deserves full respect, and they should adapt to the laws and regulations to feel more secure.”
Charlie smiled again and said, “You celebrities often speak up and urge American states…”
“I’ve heard you call for changes to the laws for LGBT rights, but I haven’t heard you speak up for illegal immigrants,” Charlie Wade said.
“You want the government to provide equal rights for LGBT people, which is great. It’s kind and very American. But why do you treat LGBT and illegal immigrants differently? Don’t illegal immigrants deserve a call for change too? Is it just because you think LGBT people matter more? Do illegal immigrants not have a place in America? If your idea of equality is based on being a citizen, doesn’t that seem a bit childish?”
Tawanna was caught off guard by Charlie Wade’s tough questions.
Despite her years in the entertainment industry and her impressive singing talent, it was clear she didn’t truly believe in the values she was supposed to represent as an idol.
What does it mean to believe in those values? It means that any claim you make should be based on solid reasoning. If you only talk about what you want but can’t explain why, it’s not much different from being a bully.
After thinking for a while with a troubled look on her face, Tawanna finally said, “You know, the LGBT community has a broader meaning. We support LGBT people not just in the United States, but all around the world.”
Charlie Wade nodded and replied, “Yes, when I talk about illegal immigrants, I’m referring to those from everywhere, not just the U.S. So, what’s the difference?”
Tawanna glanced at Charlie Wade, hoping he would react like the previous two ladies had, and then she could say a few supportive words to move on from the topic.
But who would have guessed that this guy would turn out to be a troublemaker, constantly challenging him?
