Since the song “Assassin” was at the end of Gu Qiuyi’s performance, Charile decided not to do his stage makeup right away. Instead, he watched as the two girls worked together on their performances.
After a few songs, Gu Qiuyi approached him and said, “Brother Charile, we’re about to change into the makeup for ‘Assassin.’ Your costume is ready. Can you come change with us?”
Charile nodded and followed the girls backstage.
At that moment, Tawana’s stage director joined them and explained, “For the last song, both of you will wear traditional Chinese costumes, so there won’t be any singers on stage. If the venue is empty, the atmosphere might cool down. To keep things lively, we’ll show a 5-minute highlight reel of your rehearsal before that.”
Tawana asked, “The highlights have been filmed, right?”

“Yes,” the stage director confirmed. “We have six cameras filming on stage. We can easily edit together the best moments.”
Tawana looked at Gu Qiuyi and said, “Let’s have two photographers follow us to the dressing room for some behind-the-scenes footage. It would be great to capture our conversations while we prepare. We want the audience to feel like we’ve known each other for a long time and have a close friendship.”
The stage director responded professionally, “Absolutely. When the time comes, try to be natural and relaxed. Laugh and chat more. We’ll edit those moments into the video.”
Tawana smiled and said, “Go get us some coffee and snacks. It will make everything feel more natural and lively.”
The stage director nodded, “Sure, I’ll take care of that right away.”
Gu Qiuyi then reminded her, “Please tell all the editing staff not to include any shots of Mr. Ye.”
Tawana quickly added, “You know our Feng Shui director, Mr. Ye. He doesn’t like to be in the spotlight, so we need to avoid showing him.”
“Got it! I’ll make sure to check carefully,” the director replied.
Charile couldn’t help but feel impressed. Gu Qiuyi was so thoughtful and always considered others. It was genuinely touching.
The two women headed into the same dressing room, while Charile went to a room next door.
His makeup took much less time because his character was a masked assassin. He wore a costume inspired by the pre-Qin Dynasty, which included light armor. His mask had a bronze-like texture and only showed his eyes and nostrils.
To complete the look, his long hair was styled into a bun on top of his head, with the rest flowing down his back, similar to the heroes in martial arts movies.
The props were simple too. The designer handed him a prop sword that looked impressive but was actually very light, made from a special plastic.
Once he put on the costume, mask, and wig, he looked in the mirror. No one would recognize him. He figured that even his wife, Xiao Churan, wouldn’t guess that the assassin on stage was him.
This realization eased his nerves.
He wasn’t the type of person to show off. Even if there was no reason to break the Qing Society, I couldn’t accept him performing on stage without hiding his identity. It’s much easier to be accepted when you don’t reveal your face.
