Just as Song Ruyu was feeling lost in the unfamiliar surroundings, Wan Pojun approached her and said politely, “Ms. Song, Mr. Ye just called and asked me to inform you to prepare. You’ll assume a new identity and take a special humanitarian aid flight to China tomorrow.”

“Go to China?!” Song Ruyu exclaimed, instantly overjoyed.

She had little understanding of charlie and wasn’t sure whether she still held any value to him. She constantly worried that he might no longer bother with her now that he had returned. After all, with only a year or two left to live, her chances of survival were slim, and she could hardly be of any use to him. Even if she were tasked with confronting the Po Qing Society, she lacked the strength to pose any real threat.

Just when she had resigned herself to the idea of remaining in Syria to die from the poison, charlie had unexpectedly arranged for her to go to China!

Struggling to contain her excitement, she asked, “Mr. Wan, are you serious? My identity is extremely sensitive—the entire Po Qing Society is probably searching for me. Wouldn’t bringing me to China now pose a great risk to Mr. Ye?”

Wan Pojun smiled and replied, “There are certainly risks, but I believe Mr. Ye can handle them. He said on the phone that he will personally meet you at the airport when you arrive in China.”

“This…” Song Ruyu was deeply moved and quickly said, “Please tell Mr. Ye he doesn’t need to go to such trouble. He can simply give me an address, and I’ll find a way to reach him after landing.”

Wan Pojun smiled again and said, “Miss Song, you and Mr. Ye may not have interacted much, but I believe there will be more contact in the future. Generally speaking, Mr. Ye rarely changes his mind. All you need to do is follow his instructions.”

Song Ruyu nodded gently. “Alright. Thank you, Mr. Wan, for the reminder. I understand.”

She realized that Wan Pojun was offering her thoughtful advice. Since she knew little about charlie’s personality and ways, it made sense to accept his kindness rather than question it.

From that moment on, Song Ruyu’s heart had already flown to China, thousands of kilometers away.

Though she was fully Chinese by blood and had studied the language and traditional culture since childhood, she had never once set foot in her homeland. The Song family had long depended on the Po Qing Society for survival, preventing her from returning.

She suddenly felt that being able to go to China in the final years of her life was, in some sense, a return to her roots and a redemption for the Song family’s bloodline.

…

The next day.

While Tawana’s first concert in Shanghai was in full swing, Song Ruyu had already boarded a military aircraft under the alias Cheng Xiaohui.

Song Ruyu wore a black suit issued by the staff, her long hair neatly tied back. Her cold expression conveyed a sense of professionalism and competence.

Several other young people, also dressed in black, boarded the plane alongside her.

Originally, Lao Sun could have arranged a separate flight exclusively for Song Ruyu.

However, since any aircraft would leave a trace once airborne, a flight carrying only one passenger would easily attract attention from those with ulterior motives. Therefore, to reduce risk, Song Ruyu was assigned to a relatively discreet flight with a larger crew and a more plausible cover.

By the time Song Ruyu boarded, dozens of humanitarian aid team members were already seated in the cabin.

Many of them, upon noticing the individuals in black, assumed they were military personnel.

As expected, shortly after Song Ruyu took her seat, a staff member addressed the aid workers seated in the front cabin: “Everyone, we have highly confidential agents on board today. Please refrain from speaking to unfamiliar passengers throughout the journey. All mobile phones must be turned off and kept out of reach, as required. Thank you for your cooperation.”

Most members of the international aid team were volunteers in the medical and educational sectors. Having undergone extensive background checks prior to their missions, they were considered trustworthy. Upon hearing the confidentiality request, they quickly complied and surrendered their phones.

The seats assigned to Song Ruyu and the others in black were spaced out across the cabin, with each person occupying a separate row. They did not engage in any conversation throughout the flight.

These individuals were dispatched by Lao Sun to accompany and protect Song Ruyu. Known for his cautious nature, Lao Sun aimed to ensure there were no security gaps.

Meanwhile, in Shanghai, charlie declined Tawana’s invitation to her post-concert celebration. Instead, he left the venue alone, driving straight to the military airport in northern Shanghai.

At the same time charlie arrived, a military transport aircraft touched down smoothly.

Military airports do not have terminals. As the plane taxied toward its designated parking area, five vehicles—three large and two smaller—were already positioned nearby.

Once the aircraft came to a complete stop, two boarding ladders were connected to the front and rear doors. A crew member entered the cabin and announced, “Members of the humanitarian aid team, please disembark from the front door. Confidential personnel, please use the rear door. Maintain strict discipline while exiting—no talking or phone use.”

Everyone complied smoothly with the crew’s instructions, quietly collecting their carry-on luggage and lining up to disembark through separate doors.

Song Ruyu and the other men in black boarded two vehicles, while the rest of the humanitarian aid team lined up and boarded three buses.

The aid team members still needed to complete entry registration procedures at the airport. Meanwhile, after Song Ruyu entered the car, she was driven directly out of the airport’s runway area.

Inside the vehicle, the woman in the driver’s seat said, “Miss Song, we’ll be taking you to the underground parking garage. Mr. Ye is already waiting for you there.”

Song Ruyu felt a mix of nervousness and excitement. She softly thanked the woman, then fell into silent contemplation, her mind wandering.

Military airports are typically highly secure. Aside from the runways, which must be exposed due to flight operations, most of the facilities are enclosed and restricted.

All confidential aircraft must be moved into hangars immediately after landing. Likewise, apart from essential logistics vehicles, most other vehicles are parked in the underground garage.

At that moment, charlie’s BMW 530 was parked in the underground lot.

The black Hongqi sedan pulled up in front of his car. A woman in black seated in the front passenger seat stepped out and opened the door for Song Ruyu, saying, “Miss Song, you may get out now.”

As soon as charlie saw Song Ruyu arrive, he opened his door and stepped out. The moment he laid eyes on her, he was momentarily stunned.

Though dressed entirely in black, Song Ruyu’s complexion was strikingly fair. She had a slender figure, well-defined facial features, a straight nose, and two bold, sword-like eyebrows that gave her the aura of a heroic woman.

Yet the instant she saw charlie, a flush of red quickly spread across her pale cheeks.

She stood in front of him with her legs together, visibly shy, nervously pinching the index finger of her left hand with her right. Her voice was soft and slightly trembling: “Mr. Ye, hello!”
