The examiner explained the rules as he accompanied Kai.

“Examiner, may I not use the furnaces you’ve provided? I’m not accustomed to them…” Kai inquired.
“I already mentioned that you can’t use your own pellet furnaces. That wouldn’t be fair. If someone brought in a divine censer, it wouldn’t accurately reflect your alchemical skills!” the examiner replied.
“I don’t need my own furnace!” Kai shook his head.
“Then what will you use?” The examiner appeared puzzled.
“I’ll use that one…” Kai casually pointed to an incense burner situated on a nearby table.
“Are you joking? That’s an incense burner, used for burning incense and timing! How could you possibly refine a potion with that?” the examiner exclaimed, looking bewildered!
“Kai, are you out of your mind? You want to use an incense burner to refine pills? This is a fifth-grade top-tier elixir. Do you really think you can refine it like an ordinary low-grade elixir?”
Zhu Zhu shot Kai an incredulous look, clearly disgusted.
“I’m merely inquiring if using that incense burner is permitted. If it’s not, then I’ll forget it.”
Kai shrugged, nonchalant.
“There’s no rule against using an incense burner for pill refining, but you should know that using a furnace provides an advantage. Don’t you want that bonus?”
The examiner questioned.
“For a mere fifth-grade top-tier elixir, I don’t need the bonus from a dan furnace. Even if you handed me a broken tile, I’d still manage it!”
Kai replied, unfazed.
“Examiner, grant him the incense burner. I’ve never seen anyone so brazen; I want to see how he plans to refine a fifth-grade superior elixir with that!”
Zhu Zhu glared at Kai, seething with anger.
In truth, Kai was intentionally provoking Zhu Zhu. Ever since they met, she had looked down on him, and he wanted to demonstrate his true talents!
“Alright, in all my years as an examiner, I’ve never witnessed anyone using an incense burner to make pills. Today, I’ll make an exception and see how you do it!”
The examiner declared, clearing the incense ash from the burner before handing it over to Kai!
