Bai Yi’s heart tightened upon hearing what Gadfly said. He couldn’t understand how the city lord knew someone was inside the Purgatory Field.

Did Kai make some noise inside that alerted the city lord, prompting him to come in person?

Bai Yi, standing not far away, trembled slightly. If Gadfly had really come to capture Kai, they wouldn’t have the strength to resist at all.

“The trial participant hasn’t come out yet,” the staff lady replied.

“Oh,” Gadfly nodded, then led his people to the side to rest.

He was waiting for Kai to appear. Bai Yi grew increasingly nervous, quietly moving closer to the entrance in hopes that Kai would come out quickly so they could slip away before Gadfly noticed.

Just as Bai Yi was anxiously waiting, the figures of Kai and the Crazy Immortal appeared.

The two exited the Purgatory Field and flew straight toward the entrance.

Looking at the Sky Steps ahead, Kai thought bitterly that if he had to walk down from here, he might just collapse.

“My dear son-in-law…” Bai Yi called out, rushing forward to meet him.

“Father-in-law? Why didn’t you leave? You’re still here waiting for me?” Kai asked in surprise.

“I was worried something might happen to you, so I stayed,” Bai Yi said sincerely. Then, noticing Fengxian beside him, he asked, “And who is this fellow Taoist?”

“This is my younger brother, Fengxian,” Kai said casually.

“Fengxian?” Bai Yi was stunned. He looked at Fengxian in disbelief and asked, “Are you the Senior Fengxian who entered the Purgatory hundreds of years ago and never returned?”

Fengxian nodded. “Uncle, please don’t call me senior. Kai is my elder brother. Since you’re his father-in-law, I should call you uncle.”

“No, no, Senior Fengxian, you—”

“Father-in-law, if he wants to call you that, let him. Don’t object,” Kai interrupted, cutting Bai Yi off before he could finish.

Given the Crazy Immortal’s temper, if Bai Yi refused, he’d probably start kowtowing again right there.

“Alright!” Bai Yi nodded, then turned to Kai. “My dear son-in-law, let’s go quickly and not linger here.”

“Father-in-law, did something happen?” Kai asked, surprised.

Why was he urging him to leave the moment he came out?

“Don’t ask, just come with me first,” Bai Yi said firmly, attempting to lead Kai away through a side path rather than the main entrance.

But just as they were about to leave, the staff lady spotted them.

“Hey! What are you doing? Why are you sneaking out instead of using the main gate?”

“Did you steal something? Come over here and let me check!” she shouted.

Seeing this, Bai Yi frowned. Now they were in trouble—sneaking away unnoticed wouldn’t work anymore.

However, since Gadfly hadn’t come over yet, Bai Yi quickly stepped forward and said, “Miss, we didn’t steal anything. There’s just an urgent matter at home, so we wanted to leave quickly.”

As he spoke, Bai Yi discreetly handed her a storage bag.

The staff lady’s eyes widened and she snapped, “What are you trying to do, bribe me? I’ll have you know I take my job seriously—I don’t accept bribes!”

“Step forward right now and let me inspect you. I’m sure you stole something!”

“Who are you accusing of stealing? What junk around here is even worth stealing?” Kai snapped back angrily.

Wasn’t she just a ticket-taker? Yet she acted like some big official—what a joke.

“Shut your filthy mouth! How dare you accuse my brother of stealing? Are you tired of living?” the Crazy Immortal shouted, stepping forward and pointing at the staff woman furiously.
