An Understated Dominance - Chapter 244
“Hmm?” Maximus’s eyes widened in surprise. He didn’t expect Dustin to grab his sword with just his hands. Clearly, he had underestimated Dustin’s talent and confidence. But instead of feeling worried, Maximus felt more excited. The stronger the opponent, the more fired up he became.
“Return!” Maximus commanded, and with a wave of his hand, his sword flew back to him like a snake.
“Oh?” Dustin was taken aback. Even though he was holding back his powers to match Maximus, he recognized the skill it took for Maximus to reclaim his weapon.
“Watch out! I’ll show you my Illusory Sword Technique!” Maximus warned, then waved his sword again. In an instant, his sword split into hundreds of shimmering blades that danced around them, creating a confusing web of swords within ten meters. With so many blades, it was hard to tell which one was real.
“Wow! It’s the Illusory Sword Technique! Maximus Kane means business!” someone in the crowd exclaimed.
“I heard no one can withstand the Illusory Sword Technique. That guy is going to lose!” another person shouted.
“Kill him! Kill him!” the crowd chanted, some cheering wildly, others worried for Dustin as the atmosphere grew tense.
Suddenly, Dustin disappeared among the swirling illusory swords. Both he and Maximus were gone from view, leaving only the dazzling blades spinning in the ring. The audience was glued to the fight, trying to figure out who was moving where. They were captivated, not wanting to miss any of the action in this thrilling showdown. Dustin, the underdog, had captured everyone’s attention.
Dustin had fought bravely against Mr. Williams’ team all by himself. Earlier, he had defeated two top masters from The Hundred Immortals. Even though he lost to Maximus, he felt proud of what he had accomplished.
Three minutes later, the audience heard metal clanking as the illusion of swords disappeared. A figure, looking hurt, quickly stumbled to the edge of the ring.
He finally steadied himself, and everyone realized it was Maximus! Meanwhile, Dustin stood in the center of the ring, still and unmoving.
“What happened? Who won?” The audience whispered to each other, confused. Dustin and Maximus looked fine, but one seemed calm while the other looked troubled.
“Sir, you are truly talented. I concede defeat,” Maximus finally said after a long pause.
The crowd gasped. What was happening? Both fighters appeared uninjured. Neither seemed to have a clear advantage, so why did Maximus give up? Was he paid off by the Harmons, like the King of Kicks?
“Max, what are you saying? We Boulderthorn guild members never give up! Take him down!” Brody shouted, recovering from his shock.
“Be quiet!” Maximus shot back. “Admitting defeat when it’s clear is not shameful. You must recognize when your opponent is better!”
The audience may not have realized it, but Maximus knew the truth.
