An Understated Dominance - Chapter 310
The sword clanged as it swung. Just as it was about to slice Maximus’ neck, a hand shot out and caught it.
“Hm?” Brody looked up, his eyes wide with fear. “I-it’s you!” He had been so focused on Maximus that he hadn’t noticed the legendary figure standing behind him.
“Is it worth being sad over a woman who doesn’t deserve it?” Dustin asked, ignoring Brody and fixing his gaze on Maximus. “If you want to die, I can help with that. I’ll forget I ever saved someone as useless as you. But if you have any pride left, as a man, you need to stand tall. You don’t look like a swordsman right now, even though you once claimed you wanted to be the best swordsman in the world! Wake up!” With that, he slapped Maximus hard, making him tremble from the impact. It seemed to awaken something in Maximus, and his eyes began to shine again.
He noticed Brody’s angry glare and the look of disgust on Caitlyn’s face. Finally, he managed a sad smile. “Dustin, you’re right. I shouldn’t mourn a woman who doesn’t love me. Thank you for that.”
Slowly, he stood up, determination written on his face. He had let go of his obsession, and the heaviness of his sadness began to lift. His internal energy started to stir, signaling a breakthrough was near.
“Hmm?” Dustin raised an eyebrow, surprised. His instincts told him that Maximus was on the verge of greatness!
Just then, several men arrived, led by a middle-aged man with a clean-shaven face. He appeared friendly, but his eyes revealed a darker side. This man was Luther Williams, the second-in-command of Boulderthorn.
“Dad! You got here just in time!” Brody exclaimed, his eyes lighting up. He quickly turned to his father, “I ran into Maximus, and he punched me because he’s jealous!”
“I’m badly hurt—his punch messed up my blood circulation and energy.”
“Oh?” The man squinted and turned to Maximus. “It’s you, the traitor. Didn’t you learn your lesson last time? Do I need to take your life?”
“And you must be Mr. Williams,” Dustin said as he studied the man. “You’re dressed well, but it’s too bad you’re just a filthy animal inside.”
“What did you say?” Luther’s face twisted with anger, his eyes full of menace.
“No, that’s not right. I’d be too kind to compare you to an animal. A man who dishonors the fiancée of his mentee is worse than an animal,” Dustin said boldly.
“You jerk! Who do you think you are? How dare you talk to me like that!” Luther’s eyes sparkled with malice. He was never reckless; he always looked into his victims’ backgrounds to avoid trouble later on.
“Dad! This is Dustin Rhys! He’s ruined our plans many times!” Oliver, who stood behind his father, finally spoke up. He and his brother, Brody, had lost to Dustin several times.
“Oh, so it’s you?” Luther smirked. “I’m impressed by your bravery, especially since you’re about to die.”
“It’s too soon to decide that,” Dustin replied with a calm smile, then turned to Maximus. “Maximus, this is your chance for revenge. Get in the ring and fight this lowlife. Beat him and free yourself from your demons!”
