An Understated Dominance - Chapter 349
“Lunch is ready!” Florence announced, presenting a beautiful spread of food that looked delicious.
Dustin had thought about making an excuse to leave, but Dahlia stopped him. He had no choice but to stay and eat with Rufus. This was the first time the father and son had shared a meal at the same table.
As they ate, Rufus felt tears welling up in his eyes. It had been a long time coming, but he finally got to sit down with his son for a meal.
He hadn’t yet received Dustin’s forgiveness, but just being there was enough for him. He felt satisfied. Many people would never believe that the tough Prince of Theswe could get emotional over a meal.
Once he finished eating, Rufus politely excused himself. He knew that if he stayed too long, his son might get angry.
As Rufus left the Nicholson Villa, he felt light on his feet.
“How did it go, Sir?” Albert asked curiously when Rufus got into the car.
“Hahaha! I had lunch with my son today!” Rufus replied with a big smile. It was clear he was happy.
The driver found it odd that a meal could make him so joyful. “So you had lunch with your son; what’s the big deal? Does it really make you this happy? You’re the Prince of Theswe! Where’s your dignity?” he thought.
“Congratulations, Sir! That’s a step closer to success!” Albert said with a grin. He understood how much this meant to Rufus. Even winning ten cities wouldn’t compare to this moment.
“We’re off to a good start, but knowing that rascal, it might be hard to make real progress,” Rufus said, a hint of worry creeping back in.
“Take it slow, Sir. I believe that one day, Mr. Logan will come around,” Albert encouraged.
“Don’t worry, he’ll forgive you,” Albert reassured Rufus.
“I hope so…” Rufus sighed. “By the way, is my daughter-in-law connected to the Nicholson family from Glenstead?”
“Yes, she is from the well-known Nicholson family,” Albert confirmed.
“Okay, call that guy—what’s his name? Reggie?” Rufus asked.
“Regulus Nicholson,” Albert replied.
“Right, call Regulus. Make sure he looks after my daughter-in-law, but keep it low-key. I don’t want her to feel scared,” Rufus said thoughtfully. He knew earning his son’s forgiveness would be tough, but winning over his daughter-in-law first could make things easier.
“Don’t worry, Sir. I’ll handle it,” Albert assured him.
“Good. Let’s go visit the Drunken Maniac at the Peaceful Medical Center. It’s been a while, and you two should catch up.”
Meanwhile, at the Nicholson Villa, Dustin watched without a change in expression as Rufus’ car drove away. He knew that Rufus wasn’t responsible for what happened in the past, but he still couldn’t bring himself to forgive him. He was human, after all, and emotions were hard to ignore.
Throughout his life, Dustin believed that kindness should be repaid, and wrongs should be avenged. He would do anything for his family. But Rufus was different. As a man of status, Rufus often acted in his own interest. Others might think he did nothing wrong, but to Dustin, his biggest mistake was inaction.
“Why are you lost in thought?” Dahlia asked as she brought him a cup of hot tea.
“Just thinking,” Dustin replied.
Dustin smiled and took a sip of his tea.
“Didn’t you say your parents had both passed away? Who was this father you mentioned today?” Dahlia asked, looking puzzled.
“He might as well be dead to me,” Dustin replied calmly.
“It sounds like there’s a big conflict between you two. Can I ask what it’s about?” Dahlia wanted to understand the situation better.
